Welcome WeekNew Student Institute

New Student Institute

New Student Institute is two days of educational sessions and fun activities for new students to learn more about what it means to be a student here at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Sessions are mandatory for all new students, commuters, and transfer students. (Accepted students who have reapplied for admission to MVNU after previously attending do not need to attend NSI.)

All new students are required to attend NSI Fall 2021 on Aug. 27-29. The schedule is below.

Friday

7:15-8:30 a.m. — Breakfast (Cafeteria)
8:30-9:00 a.m. — Trig Test (Faculty 105) - only required for those who are notified via email.
8:45-8:55 a.m. — Check in for all students (Chapel Auditorium)
9-10:20 a.m. — Session 1: Opening (Chapel Auditorium)
10:20-10:30 a.m. — Divide by Majors (Chapel Auditorium)
10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. — Professor Meetings (Various)
12-1 p.m. — Lunch (Cafeteria)
1:10-1:30 p.m. — Session 2: SGA Intro (Chapel Auditorium)
1:40-2:35 p.m. — Workshop Block 1
  • Workshop A — Blue Group (Foster Hall)
  • Workshop B — Yellow Group (Chapel/Thorne)
  • Workshop C — Green Group (Gym 2)
2:45-3:45 p.m. — Small Group Activity & snack
4-5 p.m. — Session 3: Live Healthy Habits and Get Connected (Chapel Auditorium)
5-6 p.m. — Dinner (Cafeteria)
6:30-8:30 p.m. — Gathering (Ariel-Foundation Park)
8:30 p.m. — Return to campus

Saturday

7:00-8:30 a.m. — Breakfast (Cafeteria)

9-9:20 a.m. — Session 4: Give Back (Chapel Auditorium)
9:30-10:25 a.m. — Workshop Block 2

10:35-11:10 a.m. — Small Group Activity (Tour of Campus)

1:30-2:45 p.m. — Session 5: Title IX Session (Chapel Auditorium)
2:45-3:20 p.m. — Snack Break (Eternal Flame)
3:30-4:25 p.m. — Workshop Block 3
  • Workshop A — Yellow Group (Foster Hall)

Sunday

8-9:30 a.m. — Breakfast
10 a.m.-12 p.m. — Church attendance with small groups
11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. — Lunch (Cafeteria)
1-4 p.m. — (re)Creation Activities (Grove/The Barn)
1:30-5:30 p.m. — Choral Auditions (Chapel Nease)
4-5 p.m. — Free time
5-6:30 pm — Picnic Themed Dinner (Cafeteria)
6:30-8 p.m. — Free time
8-9 p.m. — Residence Hall Meetings (Residence Halls – Commuters excused)

*All sessions required of commuters, transfers and new students unless otherwise specified.
