Registrar + Proficiency Exams

AP, CLEP, AND EM

Proficiency examinations are used to measure exceptional preparation in high school or independent study, and may be arranged by any qualified student through the University Registrar’s Office.

The grade for credit established by examination will be shown as EM, which assumes a level of achievement of at least equal to a grade of C. Examinations may be taken only by students who are degree candidates. The number of semester hours credit and conditions under which a proficiency examination may be written are determined by the Academic Dean under policies established by the Faculty.

The maximum number of hours by examination, which will apply to the 120 semester hours required for the bachelor’s degree in the traditional program, is 30 hours.

See the most recent catalog for additional guidelines applicable to the credit by examination options.
