Cheek returns as Director of Alumni Relations and Advancement

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (January 23, 2023) — Mount Vernon Nazarene University President Henry W. Spaulding II announced the appointment of Mike Cheek as Executive Director of Alumni and Advancement, effective Jan. 19. Cheek, a 1982 graduate, returns to a position he held in the early 2000s.

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (Sept. 12, 2022) —Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s School of Christian Ministry will offer a one-day seminar for ministry students and all pastors and leaders on the MVNU field. The event, on Oct. 25, features Philip Zimmermann’s presentation of “MindShift,” a training event that focuses on the five paradigm shifts necessary for fruitful ministry in what is quickly becoming a post-Christian context.

Bill Bridges, founding professor of Communications and Retired Ohio Air National Guard Chaplain, fondly looks back on his time on campus and shares with us the value and importance of our motto, established by Founding President Stephen W. Nease — “To Seek To Learn Is To Seek To Serve” and its relevance today as well honor our veterans.

Mount Vernon Nazarene University was founded while the Vietnam War was still in full swing in the late 1960s. It was seen by many as almost foolhardy to start a new college at that time since most existing institutions of higher learning were rife with protests, shootings, burnings, and indescribable anger against the war. Veterans returning from the war zone were themselves met consistently with disrespect and name-calling; were spat on, and often personally attacked as if they themselves were responsible for all that was being challenged.

MVNU announces construction of Phase 2 of soccer and lacrosse stadium

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Mount Vernon Nazarene University soccer and lacrosse fans will be cheering on the Cougars from the stands of a new stadium in the fall of 2022. Phase 2 of the project will start in the coming days and is expected to be finished in summer 2022.
