Application and Audition Process

Auditions

Theatre Scholarships* are talent-based awards, open to all students regardless of major, and are awarded through an audition before MVNU faculty and staff. Scholarship awards range from approximately $500-$3,000 for one academic year. They are renewable and eligible for increase from year to year, pending approval from the scholarship committee.

Auditioning to join Theatre at MVNU is a three-part process:
  • Complete the interest form for theatre.
  • Send a recorded monologue or excerpt of a scene in which you are featured heavily to our Theatre Coordinator, Zachary Sherman. The parameters are as follows:
    1. All videos should be 5 minutes or less.
    2. All videos should be in .mp4 format.
    3. Try to utilize a monologue or scene that demonstrates your range.
    4. Musical theatre scenes are accepted as long as there is also a component of dialogue surrounding it.
  • Upon a positive review of your materials, our theatre coordinator will schedule an interview with you to discuss scholarship opportunities.
*At this time, scholarships are only available to incoming students.

Student Expectations

Students who have been accepted into the Theatre program will be expected to fulfill a certain number of hours every term. Such responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Auditions;
  • Two weeknight practices a week (more during tech weeks);
  • Four performances a semester;
  • One of two tech workdays;
  • Set Strike;
  • Totaling about 50 hours per semester.
The Theatre coordinator is responsible to ensure that there are substantive [ways] for students to meet their hours each term (i.e. students may not be cast as a lead in a performance; however, they will have responsibilities for the show that will fill their hours, whether that is as part of the cast, crew, directing, choreography, or the like).
Students who are unable to meet the expectations of the program will be asked to leave the program, and their scholarship will be rescinded at a prorated amount.
If you have any questions, please contact Zachary Sherman.

“MVNU Theatre is a place where I found friendships as we worked toward a common goal. I also found more of myself through the ways I was challenged as an actor and through the leadership opportunities I was provided. I am blessed that MVNU gave me the opportunity to learn, grow, and create in these ways.”
