WNZR’s Lifeline 2021 makes history
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — WNZR 90.9 FM, a broadcast ministry of Mount Vernon Nazarene University, is celebrating the success of Lifeline 2021, the radio station’s annual fundraiser.
Lifeline 2021 was held in late March with a goal of $65,000. This year’s effort has brought in a record $76,864 to date, and the total continues to rise. Blessed with over 270 ministry partners, the WNZR staff was greatly encouraged and extremely thankful for the community’s support.
There were 69 first-time donors, 201 continued supporters, and four increased pledges, demonstrating that God is continually reaching new people and families through WNZR.
The funds raised will help support WNZR staffing of a full-time production director and underwriting coordinator, a part-time office manager, plus summer and 2021-22 student leadership. Lifeline funds are also used for equipment upgrade and repair, hosting for the station’s website and apps, online music streaming fees, maintaining the station’s remote vehicle and video stream initiatives through WNZR.tv.
“Thank you for believing in what we do,” said WNZR Station Manager Marcy Rinehart. “We are so honored to serve you, your family and this community. You allow us into your homes, cars and phones to connect every day with the message of God’s love. We know this is a responsibility, but with 11 new members on our staff, we know the future is bright. God is faithful and has a lot in store for all of us!”
This year’s theme was Keep Me in the Moment, based on the song from Jeremy Camp, with the theme verses Ephesians 5:15-16. This theme expressed how WNZR wants to keep its ministry focused — living wisely and making the most of every opportunity.
Official fundraising days were March 25, 26 and 29. WNZR held numerous special events, including the Lifeline Choice Challenge, which offered gift certificates to those pledging $150 or more. On the Matching Challenge Day, listeners’ pledges were matched by several generous donors in the community.
“This was my first Lifeline and it was great to have the opportunity to talk on the phone with so many listeners,” said MacKenzie Holder, a sophomore communication and media major from Johnstown, Ohio. “I was and am amazed by the generosity you show us here at WNZR. So many of my opportunities are due to your support. Thank you!”
“Lifeline 2021 has been another example of how meaningful the partnership is between our listeners and our team of student broadcasters, especially during a year of disruption,” said MVNU Director of Broadcasting Joe Rinehart. “I’m so grateful to those who continue to support our radio ministry. Your support is humbling. The growth of WNZR over the last 34 years has been amazing, and I’m excited to see and be part of what God will do next.”
