MVNU’s Potts honored with NRB media production award
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Mount Vernon Nazarene University students were recently honored by the intercollegiate branch of the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) for placing in the organization’s 2018 student production contests. The awards were handed out February 28th at the NRB’s annual convention in Nashville, Tennessee. Jenna Potts, a 2017 graduate from Springfield, Ohio and current WNZR Graduate Assistant, placed first in the Television Multi-Camera Production category representing student work on MVNU Athletics broadcasts. The entry featured a fully-student produced men’s basketball broadcast from the 2016-17 season. Potts completed a double major in Journalism and Media Production and Public Relations and is pursuing her Master of Business Administration.
“I am so thankful for the opportunity to represent MVNU and WNZR at iNRB 2018,” said Potts. “Receiving first place in a national competition shows the quality of our program and the broadcast experiences we have at MVNU. The production piece we submitted represents the combined efforts of 10 different students. I am so proud of each of my team members and the effort they put into making the broadcast possible. Thanks to Joe Rinehart for inspiring us and encouraging us toward excellence; and to the athletic department for partnering with us for game-day broadcasts.”
This is the 12th consecutive year that one or more MVNU students have placed in the top three nationally in either audio or video. Upperclassmen students taking media production courses at MVNU this fall submitted projects following the NRB guidelines, and the top projects were then evaluated and entered into the contest.
MVNU faculty attending included Joe Rinehart, assistant professor of communication and Director of Broadcasting, who serves on the iNRB standing committee, and Marcy Rinehart, WNZR Station Manager and adjunct professor.
“NRB is a rewarding experience for both students and faculty,” said Joe Rinehart. “It is the largest gathering of faith-based media producers in the world, so it gives our students valuable networking and learning opportunities. In addition, the work they do is judged by communication professionals across the country. Faculty members are able to attend sessions and workshops that provide both professional and spiritual development.”
