MVNU to host Central Ohio Honors Choirs
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Mount Vernon Nazarene University will host the 2018 District 10 Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) Honors Choir Festival on Saturday, Nov. 3. The event will showcase young vocalists from 15 participating schools in Ashland, Coshocton, Delaware, Holmes, Knox, Licking, Morrow and Richland counties.
The event features high school and middle school honor choirs. To be eligible, students must be nominated by their director. The day will start with a morning of instruction and will culminate with a final concert at 3:30 p.m. in the R.R. Hodges Chapel Auditorium on the MVNU campus. The concert is free and open to the public.
This year’s District 10 Honor choirs will feature Dr. Richard Schnipke directing the high school choir. Dr. Schnipke serves as Assistant Professor of Conducting at Bowling Green State University where he conducts the Collegiate Chorale and Men’s Chorus, as well as teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in choral performance and music education. Previously, Dr. Schnipke held faculty positions at Xavier University and The Ohio State University, and spent 15 years as an Ohio public school choral director. He also serves as the president of the Ohio Choral Directors Association. The middle school director will be Jeanne Wohlgamuth who serves as the Columbus Children’s Choir Artistic Director since the spring of 2011. Under her direction, the New World Singers have toured abroad performing for audiences throughout Europe including a performance with the Vienna Boys’ Choir this past summer. Along with her work with Columbus Children’s Choir, Wohlgamuth is the Fine Arts Department Chair and Director of Choirs at Dublin Jerome High School.
