MVNU records highest undergraduate enrollment in nine years

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Mount Vernon Nazarene University reached its highest undergraduate enrollment in nine years for the start of the 2018-19 academic year. The 1,405 traditional undergrad students and 838 non-traditional students combine for 2,243 total MVNU students for the academic year.

“I am so proud of our entire campus and how we have pulled together the past few years to meet the needs of our prospective students throughout the admissions process. Over my 10 years in enrollment I have watched the Enrollment team (Admissions, Student Financial Services and Marketing) grow and develop into a formidable group. They tackle issues and recruit the class together,” said James Smith, Vice President for University Relations. “This is the result of another year of innovation, creativity, hard work, perseverance and grit from the Enrollment Management team and our campus community as a whole. Our academic programs continue to grow, thanks to the diligent work of our dedicated faculty. Our athletic programs have been adding opportunities for athletes both in our current programs, and through the addition of new ones. The Enrollment team continues to find new ways to collaborate, dream and implement new ideas to help us address the challenges around us. The efforts of this campus community were valiant and I am thankful for the extra hours and energy they poured into our cause.”

These efforts enabled the university to enroll 371 freshmen students from 18 different states and four different countries. The increase in students is visible on campus, as chapel services, meals and housing are full. In fact, every upperclassmen room is occupied this fall, something that has not happened in over a decade.

The top five chosen majors for freshmen are Nursing (58; up from 48 last year), Biology (all tracks) (32), Early Childhood Education (25), Engineering (22) and Business Administration (20). This is the first time that Engineering has broken into the top five majors, nearly doubling the number of new freshmen.
