MVNU hopeful on fall return to campus learning
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — As the state of Ohio begins its phased-in reopening, leadership at Mount Vernon Nazarene University remains optimistic on returning students to campus for fall semester. Discussion continues to develop strategic plans to open campus and what that could look like for the MVNU Experience.
President Dr. Henry W. Spaulding II, issued the following statement to the MVNU community:
“Mount Vernon Nazarene University has, for its entire history, offered academically challenging and professionally relevant programs. As students left campus in March, they expressed appreciation for this community, including friends, staff, and faculty.
COVID-19 has challenged the University at every level. During this time, students have attempted to adjust to the new reality, along with faculty and staff. We were able to complete the semester remotely, but now we are turning our attention toward the fall. By God’s grace, fall 2020 will deliver the traditional combination of strong academics with Student Life experiences that foster growth personally, professionally, and spiritually.
Recently, Gov. Mike DeWine announced significant strides to re-opening the state of Ohio. This is encouraging to us as we make plans to have classes this fall. While no one can possibly know the future, we are working with several scenarios regarding the delivery of our classes. Please know we are passionate about offering on-campus courses as usual, but will continue to abide by any guidelines and directives provided by state and county officials.
In the last six weeks, we have learned that we must be nimble and prepared to bring students back for the full MVNU Experience. We are committed to providing everything our students need to succeed. We expect to incorporate flexibility in our approach that will offer full access to an MVNU education.
In addition, collaboration with our public health officials continues so that we maintain the safe and healthy campus you have grown to expect and love. We promise that we will do all that we can to love and support our students.
We are praying for your health, safety, and well-being as we navigate the uncharted days ahead.”
