MVNU extends test optional admissions policies

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Mount Vernon Nazarene University is making standardized test scores optional for admissions purposes for incoming undergraduate students enrolling in the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters.

MVNU previously made test scores optional for the Spring 2020 and Fall 2021 semesters. The extension of this change in requirements is a response to the continued obstacles realized by high school students in the wake of COVID-19.

“Students continue to face challenges related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. MVNU is excited to extend this policy in an effort to eliminate barriers for students to attend. We do not want students to delay applying to college because they are waiting on a test score,” said Justin Nowicki, Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management.

Admissions decisions will be made based on a holistic case review, including a thorough review of the college prep curriculum, academic rigor of the curriculum and cumulative grade point average.

Students who have already tested are encouraged to include test scores as they can be used to determine course placement. Students who do not take the ACT or SAT have the option to take separate placement tests to determine course placements.

MVNU joins universities across the country in the effort to be more flexible in the admissions process. In addition to adjusting testing policies, MVNU has incorporated innovative opportunities to connect with perspective students through virtual visits, social media mini-tours, and extended opportunities for one-on-one sessions with counselors, professors, and financial aid professionals.
