MVNU alumna opens exhibition in Schnormeier Gallery
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Schnormeier Gallery is proud to present, “A Watercolor Journey,” a solo alumni exhibition by Karen Heidler (’94). This exhibit opened on Oct. 4 and will be on display in the gallery until Nov. 12, 2021. A gallery talk will be given at the Schnormeier Gallery on Nov. 12, at 5 p.m., with a closing reception to follow from 6-8 p.m.
Taking years to develop, Heidler’s highly realistic style will pull you into the story of her paintings. This exhibit also includes some of her earlier college paintings giving you a glimpse of her progression from hopeful, college student to internationally recognized watercolorist.
Heidler is an award-winning American watercolorist born in southwestern Pennsylvania. She received her Bachelor of Fine Art from MVNU in 1994. She is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society and the Florida Watercolor Society. Her work is featured in Splash: The Best of Watercolor 19, 21 and upcoming Splash 23 (in 2022). She has received international recognition with awards from The National Watercolor Society, Signature American Watermedia International Exhibition, Transparent Watercolor Society, Women in Watercolor International Competition, and The Florida Watercolor Society.
When it comes to painting, her philosophy is to be in control of the watercolor as she creates highly realistic paintings of her favorite subjects. Watercolor fits her personality: precise, attention to detail, intense focus and follow through. Her paintings reflect who she is and communicates her desire to connect with nature while inviting others along for the journey.
She lives in Spring Hill, Fla., with her husband, three adult children, and her pet muses.
The Schnormeier Gallery is located at 221 S. Main St., Mount Vernon, on the first floor of MVNU’s Buchwald Center. It is open Monday through Friday, from 1-5 p.m. For more information, contact the Schnormeier gallery at artgallery@mvnu.edu.
