MVNU adds Worship Arts major
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — A new major at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, designed to prepare those called to ministry with modern resources, will equip new pastors with the tools they need to reach today's congregation and bring new members to the church. The Worship Arts major combines ministry, music and communications to create a compelling degree program that adds dimension to the traditional ministry degrees.
“The bachelor’s degree in Worship Arts has been two years in the making and represents the desire to equip those called to worship ministry with the broad variety of skills needed in the current church context,” said Doug VanNest, Dean of the School of Christian Ministry.
The program was designed with input from worship pastors and lead pastors, and developed by a task force into an interdisciplinary degree that draws from Christian ministry, music, graphic design, communication, and media.
“We are confident the Worship Arts major will prepare students effectively for the multitude of responsibilities given to those in worship leadership,” said VanNest. “The Worship Arts program is designed for students called to worship ministry and promises to resource them for service in today’s local church.”
The major also has the flexibility to add an associate degree in Music with additional music courses and prepares students for ordination with additional ministry courses.
