Intercultural Life at MVNU presents 12th Annual Festival Latino
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Mount Vernon Nazarene University will host the 12th Annual Festival Latino on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, in the Prince Student Union from 4:30-8 p.m. The event and program will feature musical guest Dan Ramirez from New Albany First Church of the Nazarene. This event is free and open to the public.
Ramirez was born and raised outside of Waco, Texas. He began to sing in his local church at the age of 13, both in Spanish and English. After graduating from High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was deployed to Lockbourne AFB, Ohio. While stationed there, he was introduced to Southern Gospel Music and became a part of a traveling group.
During an assignment in Tin City Air Force Station, Alaska, he found a personal, new walk with the Lord. He left Alaska and was reassigned to Wichita Falls, Texas, where he ended his military career. Upon returning to Columbus, Ohio, he rejoined his old group now called The Timesmen. They opened for many acts like The Oak Ridge Boys. He continued to sing with various groups recording five professional albums.
Ramirez and wife Peggy have five children and 11 grandchildren. He now sings solo, tours the local Eastern states and makes special tours of his home state of Texas. In 2016, Ramirez accepted the call to the ministry and currently attends New Albany First Church of the Nazarene where he is actively seeking his district license.
The program is hosted by MVNU students Geraldo Rivera and Gustavo Fuentes. There will be cultural tables and activities hosted by MVNU Modern Languages Department Spanish Classes and the Social Work Human and Cultural Diversity Classes. Authentic Latino food will be provided by Tomas and Ellie Paniagua for the 12th year.
