One Hundred Percent of First Class of Engineering Students Receive Job Placement
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — One hundred percent of the inaugural class of engineering majors at Mount Vernon Nazarene University found a job in their field within one month of graduating with their undergraduate degree.
Since MVNU announced the undergraduate major of electrical and mechanical engineering in 2014, 100 percent of engineering graduating seniors who recently completed the program were employed in their field within one month.
Darian Pacula, process engineer, is employed by Timken Steel in North Canton, Ohio; Jessica Horsley, physical properties lab associate engineer, is employed by Owens Corning in Granville, Ohio; Caleb Ledford, mechanical engineer, is employed by Korda/Nemeth Engineering in Columbus, Ohio; Nathaniel Taylor, project engineer, is employed by Summit Polymers, Inc. in Michigan; Bryce Maners, fabrication engineer, service mechanic and customer service manager, is employed by Ohio Rental in Mount Vernon, Ohio; and Guy Harder, engineer who designs fire protection systems, is employed by Continental Fire Sprinkler Company in Maryland.
“My experience at MVNU was incredible! Being a part of a new program had its challenges, but the help we received from our engineering professors, as well as many other faculty members, gave us the tools to succeed in life after college,” said Harder.
“We not only gained practical engineering skills, but we also gained practical interpersonal skills that have helped greatly with beginning my engineering career.”
Dr. David Che, professor of engineering and department chair, stated that both Pacula and Taylor commented that their senior design projects with AMG Industries helped them in their interviews with prospective employers and that their employers were impressed with the real-life project experience with MVNU’s industry partners in the field of manufacturing and industrial engineering.
MVNU’s Engineering program began in the fall of 2014 within the School of Natural and Social Sciences and continues to grow in enrollment and innovation. MVNU offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with concentrations in electrical and mechanical engineering. Engineering faculty members include Dr. David Che, Professor of Engineering and Department Chair; Dr. Jose Oommen, Assistant Professor of Engineering; and Dr. Jeongmoon Park, Assistant Professor of Engineering.
The MVNU Engineering program will relocate in the fall of 2018 to The Stephen W. Nease Center at 104 S. Main St. in downtown Mount Vernon, a newly-renovated space that was gifted to the university in the spring of 2017 by Ariel Foundation, a local nonprofit focused on improving the quality of life in Mount Vernon. The space will house the university’s Engineering program and a community makerspace, Knox Labs, Inc.
