MVNU Criminal Justice and Psychology Majors Rank Above Average in 2017 Field Testing

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s criminal justice and psychology majors presented strong rankings nationally in major field testing in 2017.

All MVNU seniors take exams before graduating to assess their learning in each major. Some departments use exams developed external to the institution, and the Department of Psychology and Criminal Justice uses exams developed by Educational Testing Service (ETS).

“It’s exciting to see students master their academic disciplines and perform well relative to students at other universities. The department is very proud of the academic accomplishments they are making,” said Randy Cronk, Ph.D., professor of Psychology and chair of the Department of Psychology and Criminal Justice.

The national mean in 2016 was 50 percent. In the 2017 results, both criminal justice and psychology majors subscores in all categories ranked above the 75 percentile.

Criminal justice subscores reached the 80th percentile in The Law, The Court Systems, and Critical Thinking. Subscores surpassed the 90th percentile in Law Enforcement, Corrections, and Research Methods and Statistics.

Psychology subscores reached the 80th percentile in two out of four categories.

Criminal justice majors have ranked above the national mean (50 percentile) for the past five years in all categories. Psychology has ranked above the national mean in all categories four out of the past five years.
