Associate & Bachelor’s Degree Programs for Working Adults

With our associate and bachelor’s degree programs, Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s School of Graduate & Professional Studies (GPS) has aimed to provide all working adult students with a quality, enriching education that enhances their career and improves their ethical mindset. Since 1993, we have adjusted our offerings to market demands, and today, candidates seeking to earn an advanced credential around their schedule have access to accelerated on-campus and online options.

Throughout all courses of study, experts with a range of professional experiences provide curriculum input, ensuring what you learn here can be applied directly in the workplace. We pair this facet with a cohort-based learning model, which is ideal for receiving academic support, getting to know your professors and fellow students, and networking for future professional opportunities.

Whether you previously started school and are now returning to finish your bachelor’s degree or are eyeing professional advancement, explore all associate and bachelor’s degrees designed for working adult learners.

The GPS Undergraduate Curriculum

All associate and bachelor’s degrees begin with general education requirements, which all students can complete entirely online. The first part consists of General Studies courses:

  • Arts and Humanities (15 Credit Hours)
  • Natural and Social Sciences and Mathematics (15 Credits)
  • Liberal Arts Electives (9 Credits for Bachelor’s Degrees/6 Credits for Associate Degrees)

All students then must complete 39 credit hours of upper-division subjects. However, especially as many working adults have already completed some college and have extensive on-the-job experience, you may be able to transfer your previously earned courses and take advantage of prior learning credits (PLCs).

To receive an associate degree through GPS, a student must have taken at least 60 credits and earned a cumulative 2.0 GPA. Students on track toward a bachelor’s degree must complete at least 120 credits, also with a 2.0 cumulative GPA. Even with transfer credits, all GPS undergraduates are obligated to meet MVNU’s 30-credit residency requirement to finish their course of study.
