Through the online BA in Christian Ministry core and the ordination concentration curriculum, students must maintain a minimum cumulative major GPA of 2.5, with no course grade lower than a “C-”.

Beginning with the general education courses and then moving into the core requirements, online BA in Christian Ministry students start by analyzing the New and Old Testaments while further refining their public speaking skills. Because this online ministry degree is leadership oriented, coursework shifts toward the discussion of biblical interpretations, understanding how traditional Christian disciplines form the holy character, learning and teaching others within the context of the church, and building a community around these principles.

The degree delves into specific biblical and theological principles, including the Pentateuch and the teachings of Paul, and covers the history of the Christian Church, with the goal of cultivating a strong base for missions and evangelism. These aspects assist students with writing their own sermons and understanding the role of the pastor, the mission of the church, and the influence of Christian faith on a minister’s thought and approach.

The ordination concentration builds upon these subject areas. In working to become an ordained minister for the Church of the Nazarene, students specifically study the Church of the Nazarene and its interpretations of biblical theology, including sin, justification, salvation, sanctification, and holiness. Coursework further examines Christian heritage in greater detail and instructs students on being practicing ministers in diverse societies, with emphasis placed on building trust within the world at large. An internship with a qualified mentor allows all students to put these principles into practice.

CAREERS IN CHRISTIAN MINISTRY

The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook shows that demand for clergy professions is expected to increase 6% from 2018 through 2028.

MULTIPLE ENVIRONMENTS HAVE A NEED FOR MINISTERS AND OTHER CLERGY PROFESSIONALS, INCLUDING IN:
  • Children’s and Youth Ministry
  • Church Administration
  • Human Services
  • Mission Work
  • Religious Education
  • Parachurch Organizations

In these environments, ministers are expected to have strong public speaking and listening skills and to reach out into their communities. Within the church, ministers perform and lead religious ceremonies and are sought out for spiritual guidance, including sharing their insights and providing faith-based counseling.

Clergy professionals may seek to earn a master’s degree at a later date. The curriculum for MVNU’s online BA in Christian Ministry program sets students up for advanced degrees in religious studies, theology, or a related discipline.
