What Can You Do with a Business Administration Degree?

Professionals with business administration degrees are not limited to working in offices. They also work in government institutions, schools, hospitals, manufacturing plants, construction firms, and churches. While there are numerous job opportunities, here are some of the career paths that highlight the versatility of a business administration degree:

Business Analysts

This degree can translate to several roles related to business analytics, including those in management and finance. A management analyst monitors a company’s data and offers strategies to reduce inefficiency and cost. They also provide recommendations to executive teams that help them remain competitive in the market. In the same vein, financial analysts are tasked with evaluating an organization’s fiscal information to help leaders make the most ideal investment decisions for the firm.

Both these positions can be rewarding for graduates. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the median annual wage in 2020 was $87,660 for management analysts and $89,330 for financial advisers.  Additionally, researchers predict that job opportunities for management analysts will increase by 14% from 2020 to 2030, which is faster than the average for all occupations.

Human Resource Managers

Human resource managers serve a company’s most important asset—its employees. Their central role is to facilitate the hiring process by interviewing, screening, and onboarding candidates. Once they hire employees, human resource managers supervise their training to help ensure a seamless transition to their new position. They also answer questions about payroll and resolve interpersonal issues.

The average annual salary for HR managers was  $121,220 in 2020, indicating the position is quite lucrative. Researchers also expect there to be approximately 14,800 new jobs in human resource management through 2030, providing ample opportunities for those with degrees in this area of expertise.

Public Relations Specialists

Public relations specialists, or communications specialists, help companies maintain a positive public image and reputation. They draft press releases about innovative businesses endeavors and contact media outlets to broadcast their content. In some cases, public relations specialists also operate the company’s social media platforms and write speeches or schedule interviews for company executives.

The median annual wage for public relations specialists was $62,810 in 2020. However, the BLS indicates that those who work for businesses and government institutions tend to make more. Opportunities for this career path are expected to grow through 2030, with approximately 29,200 new openings each year.

Accountants

Accountants assess a company's financial records and monitor overall performance based on its revenue. Accountants are often tasked with crafting strategies to minimize costs and maximize efficiency. They also take the lead during tax season each year to ensure the company complies with federal and state regulations.

According to the BLS, the median annual salary for accountants was $73,560 in 2020. Additionally, accountants who work in finance and insurance make an average of $5,000 more each year. In all fields, opportunities for accountants are projected to grow 7% through 2030.

Marketing Managers

Marketing managers work with the sales and design departments to establish a target market for a company's products and services. They keep track of the current market and research potential growth opportunities for the business to explore. Marketing managers may also negotiate advertising contracts, organize promotions, and develop pricing strategies for upcoming products.

Pursuing a career as a marketing manager can be highly rewarding. According to the BLS, the average salary for marketing managers was $142,170 in 2020. Additionally, researchers estimate an influx of around 31,100 new opportunities for marketing managers each year over the next decade.
