HUMAN AND SOCIAL SERVICES LEADERSHIP CONCENTRATION COURSES

The remaining nine (9) credit hours required in the MBA program are specific to the Human and Social Services Leadership concentration and are all fully online. Through this coursework, students are able to integrate concepts of knowledge in managing interdisciplinary relationships.

This course explores the grant application process, the basics of proposal writing, and grant implementation and reporting strategies. Students learn the process of how to research funding sources, understand requests for proposals (RFPs), develop a logic model, and write a grant proposal, needs statement, budget, and program description. This course includes community and corporate in-kind support planning with performance and evaluation reporting to funders.

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is a process in which the practitioner combines well-researched interventions with clinical experience, ethics, client preferences, and culture to guide and inform the delivery of services. In this course, students learn how to select the best EBPs available using published research, evidence-based databases, and registries. Students learn how to evaluate the implementation of interventions on an individual client level to ensure that the treatments and services have the most effective outcomes. They also learn how to evaluate the implementation of intervention on the macro level and develop a logic model for evaluation purposes. Four basic types of program evaluation (impact evaluation, performance evaluations, process evaluation, and cost evaluations) are covered throughout this course.

This course is an advanced study of administrative leadership issues in a social service context. It examines the management of a multigenerational and diverse workforce, effective communication skills in an interdisciplinary team, employee corrective actions and performance appraisals, secondary trauma support as a retention tool, benefits of emotional intelligence training in self-regulation and reflection, and the principles and methodology of managing information security.
