Online Degree Programs for Working Adults

Never Stop Learning.

Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s School of Graduate & Professional Studies (GPS) has examined the intersection of professional aspirations and job market trends since 1993 to develop a range of degree programs for working adults. Today, students enrolled through GPS can earn a bachelor’s or master’s degree completely online.

At MVNU, "lifelong learning" is in our official motto. That means we're committed to helping you learn in a way that fits into your life. Our adult education programs provide the quality you expect from an award-winning institution with the benefit of flexibility. Our accelerated courses are offered one at a time, one night a week. Plus, most courses can be completed from the convenience of your own home and around your own life.

MVNU values success in the classroom and the workplace. Using expert-developed curricula, our adult degree programs blend theoretical concepts with practical skills you can readily apply on the job and, reflecting MVNU’s overall vision, value integrated knowledge across a range of disciplines. In the process, discussions and assignments stress critical thinking, communication, and creative skills while emphasizing a Christian worldview, ethical mindset, and commitment to community engagement.

No matter your major, MVNU bases our online classes on a cohort model, designed to foster a supportive, encouraging environment between students and their professors. Particularly for adults looking to advance in the workplace, this format is ideal for forming connections that later lead to professional relationships and advancement opportunities.

Adult Undergraduate Degrees

MVNU’s undergraduate programs for adults cover both associate and bachelor’s degrees across business, education, social work, nursing, and ministry programs. Students working toward an associate degree must complete 60 credit hours, while all bachelor’s programs require a minimum of 120 credit hours.

All undergraduate degrees start with a core of General Education requirements. These consist of 15 credit hours in the Arts and Humanities, including English composition and Bible/theology studies; 15 credit hours of Natural and Social Sciences and Mathematics; and Liberal Arts electives. Students then proceed on to upper-division General Education requirements before fulfilling their major’s course load.

As well, MVNU’s bachelor’s degrees for adults require a minimum of 30 credit hours or at least half of the major’s credit hours in residence.

Graduate Degrees for Adults

Especially in education and business, a graduate degree is the key to unlocking higher opportunities, allowing you to advance on to a management-level role or a specialized position with more responsibilities. Yet, few working adults can step away from their jobs to return to school full time. MVNU designs our graduate programs around your aspirations and everyday obligations, offering flexible, accelerated online formats and a course-by-course tuition rate.

Requirements for graduate degrees differ by discipline. However, all students must complete a minimum of 21 credit hours in residence.

As well, MVNU’s bachelor’s degrees for adults require a minimum of 30 credit hours or at least half of the major’s credit hours in residence.
