Prior Learning Credit (PLC)
MVNU is proud of the diverse backgrounds in our student population and your life and work experience is important to us. We welcome students who have experienced qualified learning opportunities outside of the classroom. We award prior learning credit (PLC) for college-level non-traditional education such as:
  • on-the-job training
  • seminars
  • standardized exams
  • specific government and industry experience
  • military service
  • professional licensure
  • corporate and/or professional training
  • other activities with credible associations and agencies
Undergraduate programs that accept PLC are:
  • Associate of Applied Science-Business
  • Bachelor of Business Administration
  • Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education
  • Computer Science-Software Development
  • Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science (RN-BS)
  • Bachelor of Arts in Social Work
As part of your application process an MVNU enrollment counselor will be able to assist you with your request for evaluation of prior learning credit with regard to the program curriculum. Up to 40 semester credits of PLC may be awarded.

Prior learning submissions may include artifacts such as a transcript, certificate, letter from a supervisor, course syllabus, and/or learning materials as documentation. American Council on Education (ACE) approved training documentation or military form DD214 may also be submitted.

PLC documentation should give evidence of as much of the following as possible:
  • Documentation MUST include certification of the number of seat/contact hours
  • Sponsoring agency where learning occurred
  • Name of instructor (preferably with biographical information or credentials)
  • Location and meeting time(s) of the learning experience
  • Learning modality (online, face-to-face, blended) and components (lecture, discussion, hands-on activities, etc.)
  • Learning objectives
  • Required readings or resources
  • Criteria for success (What constituted mastery and how was this measured?)
Prior learning credit cannot be awarded without supporting documentation.

Transfer credit from one of our educational partners or from other accredited colleges or universities may also be applied toward your degree program. MVNU will assist you with obtaining your transcripts for evaluation.
