OMEA Honors Choir

Mount Vernon Nazarene University is proud to host the 2017 District 10 Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) Honors Choir Festival on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017.

The event will feature young musicians from Ashland, Coshocton, Delaware, Holmes, Knox, Licking, Morrow and Richland Counties from over 25 participating schools. The event features high school and middle school honor choirs. To be eligible, students must be nominated by their director. The day will feature a morning of instruction and will culminate with a final concert at 3:30 p.m. in the R.R. Hodges Chapel Auditorium on the MVNU campus. The concert is free and open to the public.

This year’s District 10 Honor choirs will feature Dr. Jon Peterson directing the high school choir. Dr. Peterson is Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Malone University. He also serves as conductor of the Malone University Honors Choir (for high school students), Voices of Canton, Inc. (VOCI), and The All-Ohio State Fair Youth Choir. The middle school director will be Mr. Larry Griffin. Mr. Griffin is co-founding and artistic director of Capriccio Columbus and the Capriccio Jubilee Singers. Recently retired from Worthington Schools, where he had served as Director of Choral Music at Worthington Kilbourne, Mr. Griffin also serves as Conductor for the Mansfield Symphony Chorus and Director of the Men’s Chorus at St. Charles Preparatory School in Bexley.
