  • John Packard - Program Director, Brass
    • Dr. John Packard teaches trumpet and band. He is a music professor at MVNU where he directs the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and chairs the music department. He earned his Doctor of Arts from the University of Northern Colorado and is active as a performer, clinician, and adjudicator.
  • Heather Faulkner, Program Coordinator
    • Heather Faulkner studied music at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio and at the Carl Maria von Weber Hochschule für Musik in Dresden, Germany. She's played trumpet with orchestras, concert bands, big bands, pit orchestras, and brass bands but started her instrumental journey on the clarinet. Heather has taught elementary music and high school German in the Southwest Licking Local School District and is currently the Assistant Band Director at Highland Local Schools.
  • Rebecca Abbott - Musikgarten, Group Piano Class
    • Dr. Rebecca Abbott teaches Musikgarten, this year including folk music and group piano. An adjunct professor at MVNU, she also accompanies the Collegians Choir, teaches church music history, and plays the organ.
  • Sabina Anderson - Voice
    • Sabina Anderson directs the MVNU Treble Singers Women's Chorus. She graduated from MVNU with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. After completing her Bachelor’s degree, she spent time in Indonesia teaching music and drama at Mountainview International Christian School. She then went on to complete her Master of Arts in Ethnomusicology at The Ohio State University.
  • Elizabeth Barrett - Voice, Group Voice Class
    • Elizabeth Barrett received a Master of Music Degree in vocal pedagogy and sacred music from Westminster Choir College of Rider University. After finishing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in voice performance and music and business at Otterbein College, she studied voice in Kosice, Slovakia, and Vienna, Austria. Ms. Barrett has performed as a guest vocalist in the State Opera House in Slovakia and for the 2003 NATO Environmental Conference in Budapest, Hungary. In 2008, she performed as soprano soloist with the Central Florida Bach Festival under the direction of Gabriel Statom. Elizabeth Barrett is part-time faculty at Mount Vernon Nazarene University where she teaches voice, stage production, worship courses, and directs the Goliards Chamber Ensemble.
  • Nick DeWalt – Ukulele Class
    • Nicholas DeWalt is a K-7 Music teacher at Cardington-Lincoln schools. As an alum of Mount Vernon, he has been very involved in music for several years, both studying and teaching many different instruments including the ukulele. Nick continues to teach his students not only to play music but to also love the depths of it, through all different aspects of instrumentation or genre.
  • Zakk Jones - Guitar, Beginner Guitar Class
    • Zakk Jones is a Columbus, OH based guitarist, bandleader, and educator with a B.M. in Jazz Studies from Capital University. In his 8+ years on the Columbus scene he has had the opportunity to play at major venues and festivals both locally and all over the world. He regularly tours and performs with Doc Robinson, Safety Squad, Popgun, Birdshack, Tony Monaco, the Zakk Jones Trio and many more artists/bands. He has studied with Stan Smith, Julian Lage, Corey Christiansen, Jonathan Kreisberg, and Gilad Hekselman among others. Besides performing, Zakk Jones is an adjunct faculty member at Mt.   • JoAnn Koh-Baker - Piano
    • Dr. JoAnn Koh-Baker teaches piano, piano literature and pedagogy, music theory and history at MVNU. She offers and prepares students for the Royal Conservatory of Music certificate program with a comprehensive curriculum covering technique, repertoire, musicianship, and theory. Dr. Koh-Baker holds her doctorate and masters degrees from Boston University and Ohio University, as well as performer diplomas from the Trinity College of Music and the London Royal Schools of Music.
  • Adrienne Lape - Clarinet, Saxophone
    • Dr. Adrienne Lape teaches clarinet and saxophone at MVNU. She earned her Doctor of Musical Arts from The Ohio State University and is an active musician and private music lesson instructor in central Ohio.
  • Juan Carlos Ortega - Strings, Beginner/Intermediate Strings Class
    • Dr. Juan Carlos Ortega teaches strings at MVNU. He also serves as concertmaster with the McConnell Arts Center Chamber Orchestra in Columbus. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Ohio State University.
  • Jenny Packard - Flute, Beginner/Intermediate Flute Class
    • Jenny Packard has 18 years of experience teaching flute, and holds both BM and MM degrees in Flute Performance. She has taught all levels from beginner to advanced. Jenny’s students have participated in honor bands including OSU Honor Band and All-State Band, as well as various competitions and youth orchestras. She is currently the flute instructor and flute choir director at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
  • Shiloh Six - Beginner Strings Class
    • Shiloh Six teaches group string classes and private violin lessons. Shiloh is a senior at MVNU where she is majoring in music education and performance. She is the violinist, cellist and synth player for MVNU’s traveling worship band and also enjoys singing in MVNU’s choirs and musical theatre productions. After graduation, Shiloh plans to attend graduate school for music history and theory.
  • Jeremy Smith - Brass
    • Jeremy Smith teaches all brass instruments. He is the low brass instructor and jazz band director at MVNU. In addition to teaching at MVNU, Jeremy also teaches at Ohio Wesleyan University and Kenyon College. He earned his Master of Music degree from Carnegie Mellon University and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in music at The Ohio State University.
  • Allen Terwilliger – Beginner Brass
    • Allen is a senior music education major at MVNU. Allen has performed in many of the ensembles here at MVNU such as Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Chamber Winds, and Pep Band on a variety of brass and woodwind instruments. Allen is excited to help students find and explore their passion for music in a positive and encouraging learning environment.
  • Lizzy Terwilliger - Beginner Percussion Class
    • Lizzy Terwilliger is a senior music education student at MVNU. Lizzy studies percussion under Cary Dachtyl. She is involved with many of the school's music groups such as Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Chamber Winds Ensemble, Jazz Band and Goliards Chamber Ensemble. Lizzy enjoys teaching students in a fun, constructive environment and is excited about this opportunity.
  • Carrie Vail - Voice
    • Carrie Vail teaches in the private voice studio at MVNU. She also has many years of experience helping lead worship in church (both voice and piano). She has a BA in Music Education from Northwest Nazarene University and is currently working on her MA in Music Education from University of Nebraska-Kearney.
