Center for Student Success (CSS)
The Center for Student Success (CSS) exists to equip students for independent, effective, and life-long learning through programs and services tailored to assist them in achieving their personal and educational goals.
Services are free for students. Visit us on the main floor of the Thorne Library and Learning Resource Center.
Our Services
Our tutors are student employees who have been trained to help you master course content and fine-tune your studying skills.
The SI Leaders are student employees who lead weekly group study sessions outside of class on topics covered in class during the week. Supplemental Instruction Leaders have successfully completed the class for which they lead SI, take notes, and model exemplary student practices. The Center for Student Success offers SI for many courses in the General Education Core.
Our Academic Peer Mentors (APM) are upper-level student employees trained to help new MVNU students transition into college life. If you work with an APM, they’ll meet with you weekly to provide academic assistance and accountability. They can also help with time management, organization, study strategies, and other forms of personal or academic accountability and support.
The MVNU Writing Lab exists to create a safe and friendly space for you to share your work and receive thorough and considerate feedback from attentive peer tutors. Our job is to empower you to become a more confident, self-sufficient, and effective critical thinker and communicator.
Student Success Coaches are professional staff equipped to empower students to set and achieve their academic goals, connect with campus resources, and thrive within the MVNU community.
Test Center
The Test Center is located on the third floor of the Thorne Library and Learning Resource Center. This center serves to provide students with a quiet, classroom-like testing environment, distance learning, or make-up examinations, which can be administered securely according to instructor's guidelines.
Accessibility Services
At Mount Vernon Nazarene University, we believe every student belongs and has the opportunity to thrive — both academically and personally. Accessibility Services exists to ensure that qualified students with documented disabilities receive the support and accommodations they need to fully participate in university life and learning. Guided by federal disability laws and rooted in our mission to educate the whole person, this service works with students to create individualized plans that remove barriers and promote equal access across programs and activities.
Nease Institute
The MVNU Nease Institute is a summer bridge/first-year experience program that offers eligible incoming first-year students preparation for the transition to college and the chance to establish themselves as scholars equipped for thriving in their college experience. The Nease Institute is named in honor of Dr. Stephen Nease, the first president of Mount Vernon Nazarene College when it was founded in 1968.
