Amigos – An evening program that works tutoring children and adults of the Spanish speaking community to better understand English. Leader: Trent Peeler

Columbia Kids – An after school program where MVNU students tutor Columbia Elementary School students in homework and build relationships through fun activities. Leader: Brooklyn Mulisano

Cut & Paste – Works to encourage children to be creative through arts and crafts, and connects the beauty of creativity to God’s creations. Leader: Heather Crawford and Melinda Frank

PB&J – Travels to Vernon Ridge Apartment Complex to hang out, read Bible stories, play games, make crafts, and eat PB&J with the children of residents in the Complex. Leader: Holly Peffer

The Learning Zone – Building relationships and helping children at Salvation Army in downtown Mt. Vernon through an afterschool tutoring program. Monday-Friday 3:30-5:30pm. Leader: Nick Berkiel


Escape Zone – Ministers to the youth of Knox County through homework help and a safe, fun place to hang out on Friday nights. Leader: Elisabeth Gruber and Jawn Virden

Wagon – A group that socializes and discusses faith with Mulberry St. UMC church members and community youth on Saturday nights. Leader: Bethany Lauer


SMILE – (Students Making an Impact in the Lives of the Elderly) ministers to the elderly community residing at Country Club through hymns, fellowship, and various activities. Leader: Brandi Beard


Echoing Hills – A group that works with Echoing Hills Village to encourage and build relationships with the developmentally delayed adult residents there. Leader: Kendra Hickman

STRIVE – (Students striving To Reach Individuals with Various Exceptionalities) A group that serves at the Mount Vernon Developmental Center by socializing and doing activities with adults that are developmentally delayed in varying degrees. Leader: Mariah Counts

Transition Mission – Reaches out to the developmentally delayed students from Knox County (middle school and high school) through crafts, fun activities and fellowship in the PSU. Leader: Kassondra Reed

One Way – Travels to churches and organizations throughout the year to minister through music, drama, and social interaction. Leaders: Beth Ann Grimes and Zac Sherman

Stitch-A-Niche – This group meets on Monday nights at 8pm in the PSU to knit. The knitted items are donated to various organizations and locations; even other CoSMO groups. Leader: Katie Haddix and Rebecca Chajkowski


Mandate – Urban ministries focused group that travels to a variety of urban areas throughout the course of the year and assist established ministries in whatever ways possible. Leaders: Cheyenne Kuhn, John Kohlhepp, Anthony DeMarco

Pumzika – Swahili for “rest.” This is our homeless ministry outreach group. Students have the opportunity to go to Winter Sanctuary and visit with men, women, and children. Leader: Matt Figueroa

Reach Swazi – Group focused on prayer for The Luke Commission, and planning campus events to raise awareness about the HIV/AIDS Epidemic in Swaziland, and the ministry of The Luke Commission. Leaders: Ben Williams and Paul Harding

Society of Cougar Nurses – (SCN) A group exclusive to Nursing Majors. They coordinate various events throughout the year revolving around the nursing program. Leader: Elizabeth Hickman

Traffic Jam – A group determined to raise awareness about the issue of human trafficking, locally and globally, by hosting campus events, and partnering with local and global organizations. Leaders: Katie Scott and Samantha Goodman
