Lady Cougars Finish Third at NCCAA
National Championship
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
BOXSCORE
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (12-3-2011) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women's soccer
team wrapped up the 2011 season with a
victory as the No. 4 seed Lady Cougars
blanked No. 7 seed Asbury (Ky.) College 1-0
to claim third place at the National
Christian College Athletic Association
National Championship held at the
Austin-Tindall Soccer Complex on Saturday
afternoon.

The match was scoreless until the 35th
minute when freshman midfielder Brittany
Bogantz found the back of the net for her
first goal of the season off a corner kick
by junior forward Jessica Linger, who
notched her team-leading fourth assist of
the year on the play.
That would
prove to be all the scoring in the match as
the second half featured just six shots by
MVNU (12-9-2) and two shots by Asbury (Ky.)
College (14-10-1). The Lady Cougars finished
with a 15-6 advantage in total shots, an 8-5
edge in shots on goal, and a 5-2 margin in
corner kicks.
Freshmen goalkeepers
Lexus Andolino and Eleni Miller combined to
stop five shots as MVNU notched its eight
shutout of the campaign. Meanwhile, Maegan
Rogers posted seven saves for Asbury.
"Once again, the NCCAA hosted a terrific
national tournament with strong teams from
all over the country," said MVNU coach
Daniel Seiffert. "It was a very competitive
week of play and our girls were absolutely
tenacious in earning their third-place
finish in the nation. I was pleased with how
we came out today and battled a strong
Asbury side right from the get go. Despite
having some nagging injuries that finally
caught up with us today, we had some other
players step up to help us get this
successful result."
"This was a total
team effort with a lot of pure grit and
determination," Seiffert added. "I couldn't
be more proud of each and every one of our
players as they all contributed to our
successful national tournament run. As
usual, we give all the glory to God and
thank Him for the privilege of playing the
great game of soccer which we love."
For their efforts, senior defender
Challyn Dobson and senior forward Amanda
Woods were named to the NCCAA All-National
Tournament Team for the Lady Cougars.
