SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (8-26-2011) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women's soccer
team came out on the short end of a 4-0
result as the Lady Cougars fell to NAIA No.
14 Oklahoma City University on Friday
afternoon in the first day of the John Brown
(Ark.) University Classic.
The Stars
(1-0) needed just 2:26 to get on the
scoreboard when Blerta Rashica scored the
first of her three goals in the match off an
assist from Meghan McMahon.
McMahon
extended the lead to 2-0 in the 17th minute
when she converted a penalty kick
opportunity. The score would remain that way
going into halftime.
In the second
half, Rashica closed out her hat trick with
goals in the 55th and 89th minutes
respectively as Oklahoma City prevailed 4-0.
The Stars out-shot MVNU (0-1) 18-8 for
the match and 10-0 on goal. Freshman
goalkeeper Eleni Miller stopped six shots
for the Lady Cougars, while Ashley Bechtold
and Alissa Reed combined to post the shutout
for the Stars.
"(Oklahoma City) is
definitely deserving of their national
ranking and they played well today," said
MVNU coach Daniel Seiffert. "We did some
positive things today and we have some
things that we definitely need to work on.
We don't have a lot of time to think too
much because we have another tough match
tomorrow."
MVNU will return to
action on Saturday at 4 p.m. CST when the
Lady Cougars will take on host John Brown
(1-0). The Golden Eagles defeated Bethel
(Tenn.) College 2-0 in Friday's other match.
