November 22, vs. Trinity International (IL) University
The top-seeded Lady Cougars fell 2-0
to second-seeded Trinity International in the championship match of the
National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament held
in Kissimmee, Florida, in a rematch of the 2003 NCCAA title match won by
MVNU. Trinity International out-shot the Lady Cougars 16-11 as MVNU
was shut out for the first time all season. Goalkeeper Krysti Wilson
posted 11 saves for the Lady Cougars as she was named the Most Valuable
Defensive Player of the tournament. Catherine Hess, who finished her
career as MVNU's all-time leader in goals (67), assists (52), and points
(186), was selected as the Most Valuable Offensive Player, and Hess and
Wilson were joined on the All-Tournament Team by Kristy Brandolini, Leanna
Goss, and Allison Linak. The Lady Cougars finished the season with a
19-5-0 overall record.
November 20, vs. Chowan (NC) College
MVNU, the top seed, advanced to the
championship match of the National Christian College Athletic Association
National Tournament for the second straight year as the Lady Cougars
rallied for a 4-1 win over fifth-seeded Chowan in the semifinals in
Kissimmee, Florida. Trailing 1-0, MVNU scored four unanswered goals
as Stacy Robey, Heather Ross, Kristy Brandolini, and Catherine Hess each
had a goal. Allison Linak added a pair of assists, while Brandolini
and Allie Warnemunde each tallied an assist apiece. Meanwhile,
goalkeeper Krysti Wilson posted nine saves to preserve the win.
November 19, vs. Asbury (KY) College
The top-seeded Lady Cougars opened up
defense of their National Christian College Athletic Association national
title with a 5-0 win over Asbury in the first round of the NCCAA National
Tournament in Kissimmee, Florida. Catherine Hess led the way with
one goal and two assists as she broke her own school record with 17
assists on the year. Kristy Brandolini added two goals and an
assist, while Audrey Hager and Amanda Suever each scored one goal.
Allie Warnemunde, Allison Linak, and Jessica Pagano also registered one
assist apiece. Meanwhile, goalkeepers Krysti Wilson and Meghan
Schymanski combined to stop two shots on goal for the team's tenth shutout
of the season.
November 6, at Houghton (NY) College
MVNU, ranked 23rd in the final NAIA
national poll, saw its school-record 14-match winning streak come to an
end as the Lady Cougars fell 5-1 at Houghton, ranked ninth in the NAIA, in
the NAIA Region IX Tournament championship match. Kristy Brandolini
scored MVNU's lone goal, which snapped a 16-match shutout streak for the
Lady Highlanders, who have allowed just four goals all year - two of which
were scored by the Lady Cougars. Goalkeeper Krysti Wilson registered
11 saves in the contest.
November 5, vs. Tiffin University
The Lady Cougars, ranked 23rd in the
final NAIA national poll, notched their school-record 14th straight victory
as MVNU blanked Tiffin 3-0 in the NAIA Region IX Tournament semifinals at
Houghton (NY) College to advance to the region championship match for the
first time ever. Kristy Brandolini led the way with two goals,
while Catherine Hess added a goal and two assists. Samantha
Tomlinson was also credited with an assist. Meanwhile, goalkeeper
Krysti Wilson posted six saves for the Lady Cougars, who posted their
fifth straight shutout and ninth overall of the year.
October 30, ROBERTS WESLEYAN (NY) COLLEGE
MVNU, which is ranked 25th in the
latest NAIA national poll, extended its school-record winning streak to 13
straight matches with a 4-0 shutout of Roberts Wesleyan in the American
Mideast Conference Qualifying Tournament to advance to the NAIA Region IX
Final Four at Houghton (NY) College. Kristy Brandolini led the Lady
Cougars with a pair of goals, while Heather Ross added a goal and an
assist. Catherine Hess also scored a goal, and Allie Warnemunde,
Sarah Helbert, and Amanda Suever were each credited with an assist.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Krysti Wilson made eight saves in posting the team's
fourth straight shutout and eighth of the season.
October 26, at Malone College
The Lady Cougars, who were ranked 25th
in the latest NAIA national poll earlier in the day, captured their second
straight American Mideast Conference South Division title and broke the
program record for consecutive victories with their twelfth straight win
as MVNU blanked Malone 3-0. Allison Linak and Allie Warnemunde each
had a goal and an assist, while Amanda Suever scored a goal.
Samantha Tomlinson and Kristy Brandolini also added an assist
apiece. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Krysti Wilson stopped nine shots for
the team's third straight shutout and seventh of the season.
October 23, at Saint Vincent (PA) College
MVNU matched the longest winning
streak in program history as the Lady Cougars blanked Saint Vincent 3-0 in
non-conference action for their eleventh straight victory. Audrey
Hager scored a pair of goals for MVNU, while Kristy Brandolini also scored
a goal. Allison Linak added a pair of assists, and Samantha
Tomlinson also tallied an assist. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Krysti
Wilson stopped seven shots to post the Lady Cougars' sixth shutout of the
year.
October 20, OHIO DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY
The Lady Cougars extended their
winning streak to 10 consecutive matches as MVNU blanked Ohio Dominican
3-0 to remain in first place in the American Mideast Conference South
Division. Kristy Brandolini led the way with a goal and an assist,
while Catherine Hess tallied two assists. Allie Warnemunde and
Heather Ross also scored one goal apiece for the Lady Cougars.
Meanwhile, goalkeepers Meghan Schymanski and Krysti Wilson combined to
stop eight shots and post the team's fifth shutout of the year. MVNU
also clinched a home match in the first round of the AMC/NAIA Region IX
Tournament with the win.
October 16, at Tiffin University
MVNU remained in first place in the
American Mideast Conference South Division with a come-from-behind 3-2
victory at Tiffin in overtime. Catherine Hess scored two goals for
the Lady Cougars including the game-winner with 3:40 left in
overtime. Lindsay See scored the team's other goal, and Allison
Linak and Kristy Brandolini each registered an assist. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Krysti Wilson
posted seven saves as MVNU won its ninth straight match.
October 13, at Urbana University
The Lady Cougars scored two goals in
the final two minutes to extend their winning streak to eight straight
matches as MVNU blanked Urbana 2-0 in American Mideast Conference South
Division play. Allison Linak and Allie Warnemunde each scored a
goal, while Catherine Hess and Kristy Brandolini each registered an
assist. Goalkeeper Krysti Wilson also posted five saves in notching
her fourth shutout of the year.
October 9, WALSH UNIVERSITY
MVNU rallied from a 1-0 deficit to
knock off Walsh 2-1 in American Mideast Conference South Division
action. Catherine Hess scored the game-winning goal on a penalty
kick with 3:32 left in the match, and she also assisted on Allie
Warnemunde's goal that knotted the score at 1-1. Meanwhile,
goalkeeper Krysti Wilson posted nine saves to help the Lady Cougars to
their seventh straight victory.
October 5, CEDARVILLE UNIVERSITY
The Lady Cougars scored four
unanswered goals and pulled away for a 4-1 American Mideast Conference
South Division victory over Cedarville. Catherine Hess scored two
goals and assisted on two others as she took over the all-time goals
scored lead with 60 for her career. Kristy Brandolini added a goal
and an assist, while Audrey Hager scored a goal. Samantha Tomlinson
also registered an assist. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Krysti Wilson
stopped four shots to preserve the team's sixth straight win.
October 2, MILLIGAN (TN) COLLEGE
Catherine Hess moved into a tie for
first place on MVNU's all-time goals scored list as she recorded a goal
and an assist in the Lady Cougars' 2-1 non-conference victory over
Milligan. Allison Linak also scored a goal for MVNU, while Sarah
Helbert added an assist. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Krysti Wilson posted
eight saves. Hess, who has now scored 58 career goals, is tied with
former Lady Cougar standout Kristen Votapek in that category.
September 28, vs. Union (KY) College
Catherine Hess and Kristy Brandolini
each scored two goals apiece with Hess also adding an assist as the Lady
Cougars posted a 4-2 non-conference win over Union in a match played at
the Town & Country Sport Complex in Wilder, Kentucky. Lindsay
See and Audrey Hager also registered an assist each in the victory.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Krysti Wilson stopped three shots in goal.
September 23, MADONNA (MI) UNIVERSITY
Kristy Brandolini's goal with 1:52
left in the match broke a 1-1 tie and gave MVNU a 2-1 non-conference
victory over Madonna. Allie Warnemunde also scored a goal for the
Lady Cougars off an assist from Catherine Hess, while goalkeeper Krysti Wilson stopped
a season-high 12 shots in goal
to help preserve the win.
September 18, SHAWNEE STATE UNIVERSITY
The Lady Cougars opened defense of
their American Mideast Conference South Division title with a 5-0 win over
Shawnee State in division play. Catherine Hess led MVNU's attack
with three goals for her second hat trick of the season. Kristy
Brandolini added one goal and one assist, while Allie Warnemunde also
scored a goal. Stacy Robey, Allison Linak, and Molly Dible were each
credited with an assist in the match. Meanwhile, goalkeepers Krysti
Wilson and Meghan Schymanski combined to stop two shots in posting the
team's third shutout of the year.
September 15, GENEVA (PA) COLLEGE
After a scoreless first half, MVNU
scored three goals in a six-minute spurt in the second half on the way to
a 4-0 non-conference win over Geneva. Kristy Brandolini was the
offensive star as she registered her first career hat trick with three
goals and an assist. Catherine Hess added one goal and one assist,
and Jessi Gates and Laurel Lautensack were each credited with an assist. Meanwhile, goalkeeper
Krysti Wilson stopped three shots as the Lady Cougars' defense posted its
second shutout of the season.
September 11, SPRING ARBOR (MI) UNIVERSITY
Despite taking an early 1-0 lead just
66 seconds into the match, the Lady Cougars fell 3-1 to Spring Arbor in
the championship match of the 2004 Cougar Classic. Catherine Hess
scored the lone goal for MVNU off an assist from Kristy Brandolini.
Goalkeeper Krysti Wilson also posted six saves. Hess, Allison Linak,
and Jessi Gates were each named to the All-Tournament Team for the
second-place Lady Cougars.
September 10, WILMINGTON COLLEGE
MVNU built a 3-0 lead and then held on
to defeat Wilmington, ranked 17th in NCAA Division III, 3-2 in the first
round of the 2004 Cougar Classic. Catherine Hess led the Lady
Cougars with two goals and an assist, while Allison Linak added one goal
and one assist. Kristy Brandolini also recorded an assist.
Goalkeeper Krysti Wilson posted six saves in goal to preserve the win.
With five points in the match, Hess became the program's career points
leader with 138 as she passed Kristen Votapek, who tallied 134 points.
September 4, vs. Roberts Wesleyan (NY) College
The Lady Cougars posted their first
shutout of the season as MVNU blanked Roberts Wesleyan 3-0 on the second
day of the Houghton (NY) College Tournament. Kristy Brandolini
scored two goals for the Lady Cougars, while Allison Linak added a
goal. Catherine Hess, who joined Linak on the All-Tournament Team,
also added two assists. Meanwhile, goalie Krysti Wilson stopped two
shots in goal in posting the shutout.
September 3, at Houghton (NY) College
For the first 63 minutes, MVNU played
evenly with Houghton, ranked 10th in the NAIA preseason poll, before the
Lady Cougars fell 4-1 in the first round of the Houghton Tournament.
Catherine Hess scored MVNU's only goal just before halftime.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Krysti Wilson stopped eight shots in goal.
August 28, vs. Olivet Nazarene (IL) University
The Lady Cougars dropped a 3-2
decision to Olivet Nazarene at the Trinity International (IL) University
Tournament. After trailing 3-0, MVNU scored two goals in the final
four minutes and hit the crossbar on a third attempt that would have tied
the match in the final minute. Allison Linak led the Lady Cougars
with a goal and an assist, while Catherine Hess scored the team's other
goal. Kristy Brandolini also recorded an assist. Defensively,
Meghan Schymanski posted 10 saves in goal for the injured Krysti Wilson,
while starting defenders Jessi Gates and Leanna Goss also missed the match
with injuries.
August 27, at Trinity International (IL) University
In a rematch of last season's National Christian
College Athletic Association national championship match, MVNU pulled out a hard-fought
3-2 win at Trinity International in the first round of the Lady Trojans' own tournament.
Catherine Hess got the year started well for the Lady Cougars as she registered her second
career hat trick by scoring all three of the team's goals. Kristy
Brandolini also registered two assists in the match for MVNU.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Krysti Wilson stopped six shots.
