November 24, vs. Trinity International (IL) University
The Lady Cougars captured their
first-ever national title as top-seeded MVNU defeated second-seeded
Trinity International (Ill.) University 2-0 in the championship match of
the National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament in
Kissimmee, Florida. Catherine Hess and Lindsay See each scored for
the Lady Cougars, while Leanna Goss registered an assist. Goalkeeper
Krysti Wilson stopped four shots in posting the team's school-record 15th
shutout of the year. Kristen Votapek was named the tournament's Most
Valuable Player, while Hess, Cheryl Balogh, and Lisa Hinman joined her on
the All-Tournament Team.
November 22, vs. Olivet Nazarene (IL) University
Top-seeded MVNU advanced to the
National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament
championship match with a 4-1 win over fourth-seeded Olivet Nazarene in
the semifinals in Kissimmee, Florida. Kristen Votapek scored two
goals and added an assist, while Catherine Hess recorded one goal and two
assists. Lindsay See also scored a goal, while Allison Linak
registered an assist. Goalkeepers Krysti Wilson and Kristi Tuck
stopped ten shots in goal.
November 21, vs. Bryan (TN) College
The Lady Cougars began play at the
National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament in
Kissimmee, Florida, with a 4-1 win over eighth-seeded Bryan in the first
round. Kristen Votapek led top-seeded MVNU with two goals and an
assist, while Catherine Hess added a goal and an assist. Lisa Hinman
also scored a goal for the Lady Cougars, and Lindsay See and Leanna Goss
each registered an assist. Meanwhile, Krysti Wilson, Kristi Tuck,
and Meghan Schymanski all saw time in goal to preserve the victory.
November 14, vs. Malone College
MVNU dropped a hard-fought 3-2
decision to Malone in the NAIA Region IX Tournament semifinals at Houghton
(NY) College. Kristen Votapek led the Lady Cougars with one goal and
one assist, while Katie Farver added a goal. Lisa Hinman also
registered an assist, and Krysti Wilson and Kristi Tuck combined to stop
seven shots. The loss snapped a six-match winning streak for MVNU.
November 8, GENEVA (PA) COLLEGE
The Lady Cougars downed Geneva 3-0 in
the first round of the American Mideast Conference/NAIA Region IX
Tournament. Catherine Hess led MVNU with two goals, while Katie
Farver also scored for the Lady Cougars. Jessica Ward, Leanna Goss,
and Kristen Votapek each registered an assist, while goalkeeper Krysti
Wilson posted the team's school-record 14th shutout of the year with one
save.
October 31, URBANA UNIVERSITY MVNU
closed out the regular season with a 3-0 win over Urbana that gave the Lady
Cougars their first-ever American Mideast Conference South Division crown.
Catherine Hess led the way with two goals, while Kristen Votapek broke her own
school-record with her 27th goal of the season and also added an assist.
Cheryl Balogh and Lindsay See were also each credited with an assist. Meanwhile, goalkeepers
Krysti Wilson, Kristi Tuck, and Meghan Schymanski combined to stop five shots
and post the team's school-record 13th shutout of the year.
October 28, at Cedarville University The
Lady Cougars set a new school record with their 15th victory of the season
as MVNU posted a 4-1 American Mideast Conference South Division win at
Cedarville. Kristen Votapek led the way with two goals and an
assist, while Catherine Hess also scored two goals. Allison Linak
added two assists, and Katie Farver and Krysti Wilson were each credited with an assist.
Wilson also posted 11 saves in goal to secure the victory.
October 25, TIFFIN UNIVERSITY MVNU
picked up an important American Mideast Conference South Division victory
with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Tiffin. Lisa Hinman's goal off an
assist from Catherine Hess with 30.6 seconds left in the match proved to
be the difference. Hess' assist gave her 13 for the season as she
broke her own school record of 12 set last year. Kristen Votapek
also scored a goal off an assist from Katie Farver in the first
half. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Krysti Wilson stopped four shots to
preserve the win.
October 21, at Ohio Dominican
University The Lady Cougars posted their school-record twelfth
shutout of the season as MVNU blanked Ohio Dominican 3-0 in an American
Mideast Conference South Division match. Kristen Votapek scored two
goals to pace the Lady Cougars, while Sarah Helbert added a goal.
Laurel Lautensack, Lisa Hinman, and Jessica Ward each registered an
assist, and goalkeeper Krysti Wilson stopped eight shots in posting her
twelfth shutout of the year.
October 17, at Kenyon College MVNU snapped its three-match scoreless drought as the
Lady Cougars downed Knox County rival Kenyon 4-0 in a non-conference
match. Lisa Hinman and Kristen Votapek each recorded a goal and an assist, while Catherine
Hess and Jessica Ward also scored one goal apiece. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Krysti Wilson posted her
eleventh shutout of the season as she stopped four shots.
October 11, at Indiana Wesleyan
University The Lady Cougars dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision
at Indiana Wesleyan, ranked 17th in the latest NAIA national poll, in
non-conference action. MVNU goalkeeper Krysti Wilson stopped seven
shots to keep the Lady Cougars close. Indiana Wesleyan out-shot MVNU
15-9 including an 8-3 edge in shots on goal.
October 8, SAINT VINCENT (PA) COLLEGE Despite
a 31-12 advantage in total shots, MVNU was unable to score as the Lady
Cougars played Saint Vincent to a 0-0 double overtime draw in
non-conference action. MVNU had 16 shots on goal to only seven for
the Bearcats. Goalkeeper Krysti Wilson posted her tenth shutout of
the season as she stopped six shots.
October 4, MALONE COLLEGE The
Lady Cougars suffered their first loss of the season after 11 straight
wins as MVNU dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision to Malone in American
Mideast Conference South Division action. The Lady Cougars managed
just three shots on goal, while the Lady Pioneers had seven shots on
goal. Goalkeeper Krysti Wilson stopped six shots to keep MVNU close.
October 1, at Walsh University MVNU
equaled the school record with its 11th straight win as the Lady Cougars
downed Walsh 4-2 in an American Mideast Conference South Division
match. Kristen Votapek posted her second hat trick of the season
with three goals, while Lisa Hinman scored the other goal. Catherine
Hess registered two assists to tie her own single-season school record
that she set last year with 12 assists. Allison Linak and Jessica
Ward also added an assist apiece. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Krysti Wilson stopped
three shots to
preserve the victory.
September 27, CUMBERLAND (KY)
COLLEGE The Lady Cougars won their tenth straight match and
tied the school record with their ninth shutout of the season as MVNU
blanked Cumberland 3-0 in non-conference action. Kristen Votapek
scored two goals, and Katie Farver added one goal. Catherine Hess
and Jessica Ward also each registered an assist. Goalkeeper Krysti
Wilson recorded four saves in posting her ninth shutout.
September 23, at Geneva (PA) College MVNU
allowed its first goal of the season in the first half after a school-record
streak of eight straight shutouts, but the Lady Cougars rallied for a 2-1 victory
over Geneva in a non-conference road match to remain unbeaten on the
season. Kristen Votapek and Catherine Hess each scored a goal, while
Karen Stasiowski was credited with an assist. Goalkeeper Krysti
Wilson finally allowed her first goal of the season after 769 minutes and
41 seconds of scoreless action. She finished with three saves.
September 20, at Shawnee State
University The Lady Cougars extended their winning streak and
shutout streak to eight straight matches as MVNU blanked Shawnee State 5-0
in its American Mideast Conference South Division opener. Catherine
Hess had a big day with two goals and two assists, while Kristen Votapek
also had two goals. Lisa Hinman scored the team's other goal.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Krysti Wilson stopped 10 shots in goal for her
eighth shutout.
September 17, COLLEGE OF WOOSTER MVNU
won its seventh straight match with a 2-0 victory over Wooster in
non-conference action. Kristen Votapek scored a goal in each half,
and Catherine Hess assisted on both goals. With the two goals,
Votapek became the program's career scoring leader with 38 goals, while
Hess became the all-time assist leader with 26 as the players better the
marks held by Lisa Hinman (37 goals and 24 assists to date). Meanwhile, goalkeeper
Krysti Wilson and the Lady Cougars' defense posted their seventh shutout
of the year as Wilson set the program's single-season mark and tied the
career mark. She also stopped eight shots in goal.
September 13, SIENA HEIGHTS (MI) UNIVERSITY The
Lady Cougars posted their third straight 1-0 victory and sixth consecutive
win overall as MVNU blanked Siena Heights in the championship match of the
Spahr and Glenn Cougar Classic. Kristen Votapek, the tournament's
Most Valuable Player, scored the
game-winning goal five minutes into the second half off an assist from
Lisa Hinman. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Krysti Wilson stopped three shots
as the defense posted its sixth straight shutout. Votapek was joined
on the All-Tournament Team by Hinman, Leanna Goss, and Cheryl Balogh.
September 12, OLIVET NAZARENE
(IL) UNIVERSITY For the second straight match, MVNU posted a
1-0 victory as the Lady Cougars remained unbeaten. Jessica Ward
scored with 56.1 seconds remaining in overtime as MVNU knocked off Olivet
Nazarene in the first round of the Spahr and Glenn Cougar Classic.
Goalkeeper Krysti Wilson stopped seven shots as she posted her fifth
shutout of the season.
September 5, vs. Trinity
International (IL) University The Lady Cougars pulled out a
hard-fought 1-0 non-conference victory over Trinity International in a
match played at Malone College as MVNU remained unbeaten on the
season. Kristen Votapek scored the only goal of the match in the
67th minute to give the team the win. Goalkeeper Krysti Wilson
stopped six shots in registering her fourth straight shutout for the Lady
Cougars.
September 3, OBERLIN COLLEGE MVNU
used a strong second half to pull away for a 6-0 non-conference win over
Oberlin in the Lady Cougars' home opener. After leading 1-0 at the
half and 2-0 with less than 13 minutes left in the match, MVNU scored
three goals in 51 seconds to take command. Kristen Votapek and
Allison Linak each scored two goals, while Catherine Hess and Sarah
Helbert added one goal apiece. Lindsay See registered two assists,
and Lisa Hinman also tallied an assist. Meanwhile, Krysti Wilson
notched her third straight shutout in goal as she posted three saves.
August 30, at Nyack (NY)
College The Lady Cougars won the Nyack College Tournament with
a 7-0 victory over the host Purple Pride in the second round.
Kristen Votapek equaled her own school record with four goals in the
match, while Catherine Hess capped off an outstanding tournament with two
goals and two assists. Katrina Iles scored MVNU's other goal, and
Allison Linak and Lisa Hinman each registered an assist. Goalkeeper
Krysti Wilson also posted her second straight shutout. Hess was
named the tournament's Most Valuable Offensive Player, while Cheryl Balogh
was the Most Valuable Defensive Player. Votapek, Linak, Hinman, and
Leanna Goss were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
August 29, vs. Medgar Evers (NY)
College MVNU set new school records for goals (13) and total
points (32) in a match as the Lady Cougars rolled past Medgar Evers 13-0
to open the 2003 season at the Nyack (NY) College Tournament.
Catherine Hess scored three goals and added two assists to lead the way,
while Kristen Votapek finished with two goals and two assists.
Allison Linak and Dana Detty each recorded one goal and one assist, and
Jessica Ward, Lisa Hinman, Katrina Iles, Katie Farver, Sarah Rinehart, and
Laurel Lautensack each tallied one goal apiece. Meanwhile,
goalkeeper Krysti Wilson registered two saves in posting a shutout.
