2000 Match-by-Match Recaps

November 10, vs. Nyack (NY) College
MVNC saw its first varsity season come to an end as the Lady Cougars fell 2-1 in overtime to Nyack in the semifinals of the National Christian College Athletic Association East Region Tournament. Shelly Aldrich scored the team's lone goal, and goalkeeper Rita Mullins posted six saves. MVNC closed the season with an 11-8-0 overall record.

October 28, at Seton Hill (PA) College
The Lady Cougars closed out the regular season with a hard-fought 1-0 loss at Seton Hill in an American Mideast Conference match. Despite being outshot 33-4 overall and 15-1 on goal, MVNC was able to hang close as the defense played solidly as a unit. Goalkeeper Rita Mullins finished with 12 saves. In their first year as a varsity team, the Lady Cougars finished fifth out of 12 teams in the AMC.

October 25, MALONE COLLEGE
Despite a valiant second-half comeback, MVNC dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to Malone in American Mideast Conference action. The Lady Pioneers scored the winning goal with 13 seconds remaining in the match. Lisa Hinman led the team with a goal and an assist, while Shelly Aldrich and Stephanie White each added a goal. Amy Seiffert finished with a team-high two assists, while goalkeeper Rita Mullins posted one save. The match was the final regular-season home match for seniors Aldrich, Seiffert, and Beca Scotland.

October 21, at Covenant (GA) College
The Lady Cougars suffered their fourth straight loss as MVNC dropped a hard-fought 4-2 non-conference decision at Covenant. Shelly Aldrich led the team with one goal and one assist, while Lisa Hinman scored the team's other goal. Kelly Evans also registered an assist. Goalkeeper Rita Mullins posted seven saves.

October 20, at Tennessee Wesleyan College
MVNC dropped its third straight match as the Lady Cougars fell 4-2 at Tennessee Wesleyan in a non-conference match. After trailing 3-0 in the first half, Holly Shuler and Shelly Aldrich each scored a goal to cut the lead to 3-2. However, the Lady Bulldogs added another goal for the victory. Goalkeeper Rita Mullins recorded eight saves in the match.

October 17, TIFFIN UNIVERSITY
The Lady Cougars suffered their second straight loss as MVNC fell 5-0 to defending American Mideast Conference champion Tiffin, ranked #23 in the latest NAIA national poll. Trailing only 1-0 at the half, the Lady Cougars gave up four second-half goals to the AMC-leading Lady Dragons. Goalkeeper Rita Mullins registered 13 saves in the contest as MVNC played without starters Cheryl Balogh and Kelly Evans.

October 14, WALSH UNIVERSITY
MVNC saw its school-record winning streak snapped at 11 straight matches as the Lady Cougars dropped a hard-fought 3-2 American Mideast Conference decision to Walsh. Shelly Aldrich and Lisa Hinman each scored a goal for MVNC, while Amy Seiffert and Krista Reynolds each registered an assist. Goalkeeper Rita Mullins also posted four saves.

October 10, SHAWNEE STATE UNIVERSITY
The Lady Cougars extended their winning streak to 11 consecutive matches with a 5-0 victory over Shawnee State in American Mideast Conference action. Lisa Hinman registered her third straight hat trick with three goals and added an assist to lead MVNC, while Kelly Evans and Shelly Aldrich each added a goal. Amy Seiffert finished with two assists, and goalkeepers Rita Mullins and Kristi Tuck combined to post the team's ninth shutout.

October 7, SAINT VINCENT (PA) COLLEGE
MVNC won its school-record tenth straight match as the Lady Cougars blanked Saint Vincent 5-0 in an American Mideast Conference contest. Lisa Hinman recorded her second hat trick in a row as she scored three goals. Meanwhile, Shelly Aldrich added one goal and a school-record three assists. Amy Seiffert notched the team's other goal, while Kelly Evans registered an assist. Goalkeeper Rita Mullins recorded one save in posting the team's eighth shutout of the season.

October 3, at Geneva (PA) College
The Lady Cougars continued to roll as MVNC won its ninth straight match with a 5-0 American Mideast Conference victory at Geneva. Lisa Hinman recorded the first hat trick in the first-year program's history with three goals, while Shelly Aldrich and Amy Seiffert added one goal each. Kelly Evans recorded two assists, and Sheri Shuler, Krista Reynolds, and Rita Mullins had one assist apiece. Mullins posted two saves in goal as the team record its seventh shutout of the season.

September 30, HUNTINGTON (IN) COLLEGE
MVNC won its eighth straight match as the Lady Cougars blanked Huntington 3-0 in non-conference action. Shelly Aldrich scored two goals to lead the way, while Amy Seiffert headed in the other goal. Lisa Hinman recorded two assists, and Cheryl Balogh notched one assist. Goalkeeper Rita Mullins helped the team post their sixth shutout of the season.

September 26, OHIO DOMINICAN COLLEGE
The Lady Cougars extended their winning streak to seven straight matches and remained unbeaten in American Mideast Conference action as MVNC blanked Ohio Dominican 5-0 in a conference match. Shelly Aldrich scored two goals, while Amy Seiffert, Sarah Rinehart, and Lisa Hinman added one goal apiece. Sarah Kump registered two assists, and Hinman, Kelly Evans, and Shauna Dickinson finished with one assist each. Goalkeepers Rita Mullins and Kinsey Tom combined on the team's fifth shutout of the year.

September 23, at Lake Erie College
MVNC won its sixth straight match as the Lady Cougars blanked Lake Erie 3-0 in a non-conference match. Lisa Hinman scored two goals to lead the team, while Holly Shuler notched her first goal of the season. Sarah Kump, Shelly Aldrich, and Krista Reynolds each recorded an assist. Goalkeepers Rita Mullins and Kinsey Tom combined on the team's fourth shutout of the season with Mullins posting two saves.

September 19, at Cedarville University
The Lady Cougars extended their winning streak to five straight matches with a 2-1 victory over Cedarville in an American Mideast Conference match. Shelly Aldrich and Lisa Hinman each scored a goal for MVNC, while Amy Seiffert recorded an assist. Goalkeeper Rita Mullins posted seven saves in the victory, and the goal was the first that she had allowed in 389 minutes.

September 16, at Notre Dame College
MVNC won its fourth straight match and posted its third straight shutout as the Lady Cougars blanked Notre Dame 5-0 in American Mideast Conference action. Kelly Evans scored two goals for MVNC, while Amy Seiffert, Lisa Hinman, and Emily Snyder each added a goal. Shelly Aldrich had two assists, and Amy Seiffert, Cheryl Balogh, and Holly Shuler were each credited with an assist. Goalkeeper Rita Mullins posted her third shutout of the season, and the MVNC defense held the Blue Falcons to no shots on goal.

September 12, at Urbana University
The Lady Cougars extended their winning streak to three straight matches as MVNC posted a 2-0 shutout over Urbana in the program's first-ever American Mideast Conference match. Shelly Aldrich scored the team's first goal in the 18th minute on a penalty kick, while Sarah Kump added a goal in the 49th minute off an assist from Cheryl Balogh. Goalkeeper Rita Mullins posted her second straight shutout with five saves.

September 5, KENYON COLLEGE
MVNC won its first-ever home match as the Lady Cougars blanked county rival Kenyon 1-0 for the program's first shutout. Shelly Aldrich scored the only goal of the match in the 67th off an assist from Krista Reynolds. Meanwhile, Rita Mullins recorded three saves in goal to preserve the victory.

September 2, at Olivet Nazarene (IL) University
In only their second match as a varsity team, the Lady Cougars rallied to defeat Olivet Nazarene 3-1 in the Lady Tigers' own invitational. Lisa Hinman scored two goals, while Shelly Aldrich added one goal and one assist. Cheryl Balogh also contributed an assist. Rita Mullins posted five saves in goal for MVNC. Hinman, Aldrich, and Sheri Shuler were named to the All-Tournament Team as the Lady Cougars finished second at the four-team event.

September 1, vs. Taylor (IN) University
MVNC dropped a hard-fought 2-1 decision to Taylor in the first round of the Olivet Nazarene (IL) University Classic. The match was the first varsity contest for the Lady Cougars' program. Lisa Hinman scored the team's lone goal off an assist from Shelly Aldrich. Rita Mullins had six saves in goal for MVNC.
