Lady Cougar Soccer Blog

Throughout the course of the 2009 season, MVNU junior defender Denee Stentz will write a weekly blog about what is happening with the team.

"Meet Jenessa Loewen and Jessica Estep" (posted on October 5, 2009)

This week, I wanted to introduce the rest of the junior class to everyone. Jenessa Loewen and Jessica Estep are the other two in my class, and I love them to death. Our class, even though we started with seven freshman and are now down to four, has grown so incredibly close and I don’t know what I would do without these girls.

Jenessa Loewen (aka Nessa, J, Canada, Canadia, or JLo) is your typical Canadian (that's for you, Jenessa). On the pitch, she really knows what she is doing, coming in as a freshman and playing in a lot of the matches right away. She has always impressed me with her skill and her overall genuine kindness for everyone. I love being a part of the back line playing in front of Jenessa because I know she can handle her own in the goal and I totally trust her foot skills as well as her keeper skills. Off the pitch, Jenessa has really grown into such a role model to everyone including me. Having been in small group with her during our freshman year, I enjoyed getting to know her as a close friend. Since freshman year, our relationship has only grown better. She will always do whatever is needed and always seems to be looking out for everyone else before herself. She has a truly generous heart and a genuine love for everyone. I love being able to call her my close friend and teammate.

Jessica Estep (aka J, Jess, or Jessica Smessica) is such a blast and full of non-stop laughs. No matter what is happening you can always count on Jess to laugh. She has such a gift of making you feel good, even if your joke is stupid. On the pitch, she is always giving everything she has to do her very best. Jess has such a passion for soccer and is always pushing us to give everything as well. She amazes me every game as she beats any defender with her crazy speed and cheeky foot skills. I am privileged to be able to call Jess my “seat buddy” ever since our first soccer road trip freshman year as well as my “walking buddy” for our pregame walk to the field. I love being on the same team as Jess, even though we were on rival teams all through high school. Off the pitch, I love her fun attitude and how she will always help anyone and everyone. She is truly an amazing player, teammate, and friend.

These two juniors add an amazing amount of fun, skill, and great work ethic to our team. The team wouldn’t be the same without these two girls. They are amazing and I love getting to know them even more every year.
