Lady Cougar Soccer Blog

Throughout the course of the 2009 season, MVNU junior defender Denee Stentz will write a weekly blog about what is happening with the team.

"One Last Introduction" (posted on November 29, 2009)

(Note:  Junior goalkeeper Jenessa Loewen thought it was only fitting that someone tell you little bit more about Denee after all of her blogging during this season.  Here are Jenessa's thoughts on Denee.)

Denee Stentz (aka "D”, "D-fense”, "Nae Nae Mon”) has your average "Dreadful Dreads”. A junior from Ashland, Ohio, she has been a vital part of the MVNU’s defensive line for the past three years. I have had the satisfaction of playing behind Denee during that time and have watched her grow from a timid, modest defender to a stellar anchor in the central defense. Some of her trademark moves include clearing headers, stepping up on the ball and her deadly slide tackle. Denee has no fear even when facing the top forwards in the country.

Off the field, Denee enjoys starting every sentence with "listen” and adding "for real” to every conversation. She may come off as a shy, humble individual who can be found with her science books or working on her bug collection, but do not be fooled. She is an outgoing girl who’s sarcastic humor is always a good time.

There is no doubt that Denee is also one of the most devoted Christians I have ever met, and I truly admire not only her love for the Lord but also her ability to put God in the center of her life. Having known Denee since our beginnings here at the Naz, it is apparent that she has an uncanny ability to connect with others and make those around her want to be better.

I have one more year left to play with Denee and I honestly can’t wait for the opportunities that are to come in creating even more history with next year’s team. I enjoy every minute I get to spend on the field with "D-fense”. I will miss the little things such as our pregame handshake ritual when our careers with the Lady Cougars have ended. Our coaches call our team, "The 24” since we are a family of 24 sisters. I feel very blessed to call this kind-hearted, intelligent woman one of my friends but more importantly a sister.

I would also like to thank all Lady Cougars fans this year, especially our families and friends, for their continued support throughout the season and also for their cowbells and occasionally loud cheering. Hope to see you out there next season!
