Lady Cougar Basketball Coach
Steve Gregory is entering his ninth season as the head coach of the MVNU
Lady Cougars. Gregory guided the team to a 15-14 finish in 2005-2006
as MVNU advanced to the National Christian College Athletic Association East
Region championship game before falling 81-79 at Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.)
College in overtime.
During the 2000-2001 season, Gregory guided the
team to a 20-12 overall record and the program's second NCCAA national title. For his efforts, Gregory was named the NCCAA National Coach of the Year. He has posted an
103-135 record in his eight years as the Lady Cougars' head coach.
Gregory spent seven seasons as an assistant coach at MVNU - three years with the Lady Cougars and four years as the top assistant
with the men's team. During that time, Gregory played a significant role in the success of both teams. In his final year with
the women's team during the 1993-1994 season, the Lady Cougars posted a school-best 23-10 mark and won the NCCAA national title.
During his four seasons with the men's program, the Cougars compiled an 82-46 overall record (.641 winning percentage) for the
best four-year mark in school history. In the 1997-1998 season, the team posted a school-best 27-7 record, won its first-ever
conference title, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA Division II national tournament.
As a player, Gregory was a four-year standout on the court for the Cougars from 1987-1991. He still holds several school records
and ranks second in school history with 2,242 career points. He helped his team to the first two 20-win seasons in school history.
Besides his coaching duties, Gregory serves as the Assistant to the Athletic Director and the Assistant Sports Information
Director. He resides in Mount Vernon with his wife, Melissa, and their children, Taylor and Tyler.
