Lady Cougar Basketball Blog

Throughout the course of the 2011-2012 season, MVNU junior guard Melissa Eickholt will write a weekly blog about what is happening with the team.

"A Positive Week" (posted on February 14, 2012)

Another week has gone by and it is safe to say it was a successful week! On Wednesday, we were able to get our first road win and beat Goshen! We were so excited to win that we asked for the day off of practice and Coach was grateful enough to give it to us. A day off is like a Christmas gift come late! We hit practice back up on Friday to get ready for Marian. Being down most of the game, we were able to fight our way back and knock off a Top 25 ranked team!! Lucky us, we were able to spend the wonderful Valentine's holiday in the gym getting ready for Spring Arbor on Wednesday. We tried telling Coach that everyone on the team had a date they had to go to and none of us were available for practice last night, but he didn't buy it and it was strictly business in preparing for our game. We are hoping that another win will make our chances better in making it into the MCC. We can only try and win out these last two games and see where we stand in the conference standings.

Today the blog is going to be based solely on one player, Camaranne Myles. Camaranne or Red as we like to call her because of her beautiful and shiny hair is from Centerburg, Ohio. Red is a girl that you never know what will happen when you are around her. She has many stories and tried to convince us that we should call her Copper instead of Red because her hair is a penny color not a red shade. We all tried it out, but nothing fits quite like the name Red. One of the best stories we have this year about Red is when Coach told us we weren't allowed to miss the front end of a one and one and if we did we would have to do push-ups. Red took her first shot and missed long on the rim. Coach looked at her and told her to start doing her push-ups, Cam (another nickname we have for her)looked at him with the most confused and mad face anyone could have and said, “You said we couldn't miss the front end of the one and one, mine hit the back of the rim.” Everyone on the team heard her comment and spent about five minutes laughing about what she had said. With Red, there is never a dull moment and the team wouldn't be the same without her on it.
