Lady Cougar Basketball
Blog

Throughout the course of the 2011-2012 season,
MVNU junior guard Melissa Eickholt will write a weekly blog about what is
happening with the team. "Coming
Down the Home Stretch" (posted on
February 8, 2012)
Hello all!! We won an exciting game this
past Saturday on a last-second shot by
Sierra Fletcher!! It was an awesome game and
everyone was happy to come out on top. We
have come close to a lot of teams and came
up short in most of them, losing by one or
two points. Finally, though, we were able to
pull out a close one and get the conference
win! With four games left in the regular
season, we look to get those four wins and
hopefully get a shot in the Mid-Central
College Conference Tournament. But, in order
to get four wins in a row, we must do what
we haven't been able to do all season - win
on the road. We've struggled in that area
this year by being winless on the road when
playing a conference game. However, just
because we haven't done it yet this year
doesn't mean it can't be done. Our teams'
determination is every reason to get our
first conference win on the road on
Wednesday at Goshen. Goshen is our last away
game of the regular season, so it is now or
never to get that win on the road. After we
get that win, we will round out the regular
season with all home games starting with No.
25 ranked Marian. The conference is strong,
so if you want to see some competitive and
intense games come out and watch us play!!
Now, to meet some more of the team!

Rachel Peelman is a junior Nursing major
from Twinsburg, Ohio. Her town is known for
Twins Days and you better not joke about
participating in it if you don't have a twin
because she will get offended!! Rachel
brings life to the team and is always a hoot
to be around. If you walk through a
practice, you might find her shooting
half-court shots, but don't worry she very
rarely makes them even though she believes
she is the best at them. Or, you might see
her walking around doing a handstand or bend
over. She is very busy and sometimes
stressed out from nursing, but she finds a
way to work hard at practice and keep
everyone loose and having fun on the team.
And most importantly, fellas, if you are
single and rich hit up Rachel's cell, she
will gladly take interest in you! Her goal
is to never have to use her nursing degree
and become a stay at home mom. Good luck
with that, Rachel!
Ashley Jessie
comes all the way from Long Beach,
California. Not really sure why she would
want to come to Mount Vernon when she had
that awesome weather in California, but we
are so glad she is here! Ashley says she
loves to surf, but none of us have ever seen
her do it so we're not really sure if she
can or not! I am told she has video evidence
of this, but I have yet to see it so we will
go with her word anyway. Ashley can be quiet
at times and go through practice without
saying a word and then other times she can
be very loud and vocal. We love her both
ways and are very fortunate to have her on
our team!
I am Melissa Eickholt and I
am from Van Wert, Ohio. I love the game of
basketball and every girl on our team. I
came here strictly for sports, but have
learned so much more about life and God. The
friendships and memories I have made from
being a part of the basketball team are what
I will remember when my athletic days are
over. My greatest memory this year is
watching a scary movie on the bus and that
night everyone being afraid to fall asleep
in the hotel. Everyone was scared to wake up
around 3:00 a.m. and unfortunately most of
us did and were up the rest of the night.
That is a trip I will never forget!
