Lady Cougar Basketball Blog

Throughout the course of the 2011-2012 season, MVNU junior guard Melissa Eickholt will write a weekly blog about what is happening with the team.

"Staying Strong Towards the End" (posted on February 1, 2012)

After finally breaking our long losing streak, it felt good to be back in the win category! The team was tired of losing and becoming very frustrated with it. Once we won, it was like a weight was lifted off of our backs and we remembered what it was like to be on the winning end of things. Following the W against Goshen, we were able to put together a well-played game and defeat Grace as well. We didn't show up to play the first time we played them and it showed in the score. The second time we played them we were determined to give them everything we had and it worked for us. Next up was IWU, the No. 1 team in the nation. No one was scared of them, but once again we didn't show up the whole 40 minutes of the game. Defensively, we couldn't complain about the job we had done, but offensively we knew we could have produced better. We learn from our losses and make sure we hit the practice floor even harder so that the mistakes we make in the games are not reoccurring mistakes. With just six games left in the regular season, the team looks to stay focused and end the remaining games on a positive note. 2012 has been sort of a struggle for us, but as a team we look to lean on one another and help each other get through each and every struggle that is faced throughout the season. There have been good times and some bad, but we continue to stay together as a team and that is what will help us finish the season off on a positive note. Now let's meet some more players!!

Amy Daniels Emily Steveley Courtney Swart

Amy Daniels - Amy is a sophomore majoring in biology. She graduated high school from Pleasant and lives in Marion. Amy transferred in to MVNU and we are so happy that she did!! One thing about Amy is every away trip she would spend the entire time doing homework. She would have a book out the whole way there AND the whole way back. Everyone else was sleeping, but Amy was taking advantage of the four-hour bus ride and being a good student. GOOD JOB AMY!! She is a girl that can be very quiet, but excels at what she does. She works hard at practice and it pays off in the games.

Emily Steveley - She is from Wapakoneta High School and if you were to ask her what her town is famous for she would tell you that Neil Armstrong is from there. She majors in exercise studies and spends her free time sleeping. Her name is Emily, but if you walked around campus or went to a game you would find everyone calling her Mole. And again if you asked her why people call her Mole, she would casually point to her nose and say, “it's because I have a mole on my nose.” If you were to be gone for a while and then come back to her apartment, you would find her sleeping on the futon or taking a nap anywhere else but her own bed. Mole is a ball of fire and loves to have fun!

Courtney Swart - Court is from Grove City and majors in Early Childhood Education. She also lives for naps and as soon as she wakes up thinks about when the next time she can go to bed is. Her freshman year she was very quiet and didn't say much, but when she did it was always funny. Now, she talks a lot more and still has funny comments and remarks. There are times Courtney will be sitting on the futon for hours and hasn't moved an inch. Most of the time, the TV will be turned to the TV show Friends or the Food Network. You can always count on Courtney to eat a late night snack with you or make a run to Papa John's or Coldstone. Everyone is glad Courtney is on our team and it wouldn't be the same without her.
