Lady Cougar Basketball Blog

Throughout the course of the 2011-2012 season, MVNU junior guard Melissa Eickholt will write a weekly blog about what is happening with the team.

"Getting to Know Teammates on the Road" (posted on January 18, 2012)

Eight out of the last nine games have been away for the Lady Cougars. We are pretty worn out from traveling and staying in hotels all the time, so we are more than ready to play tonight (Jan. 18th) against Goshen on our home court. Although we haven't been getting many wins on the road, we still tend to stick together and make the best of every situation. After we play Goshen and get a win, we will have played all of the teams in our new conference one time. We are ready for the second round of league play to start getting our wins back!

Since we have been on the road a lot, we have had the opportunity to get to know our freshman a little better. One freshman that always makes us laugh on road trips is Courtney Elaine Christie. Since we have two Courtneys on our team, we tend to call her "CC" or "little Courtney" since the other Courtney (Swart) is 6'0 we tend to call her "big Courtney". CC was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio and is an alum of Alter High School. She is obsessed with chocolate and Elvis. Since Elvis had a birthday recently on January 8th, Courtney decided to buy a cake from Cold Stone and candles to celebrate his birthday. Her favorite MVNU moments are hanging out and clowning around with the dream team and living on the futon with strawberry (her roommate, Ainsleigh).

Another teammate we enjoy spending time with is our student assistant, Hailey Little. Hailey's big smile and personality has been with us for two years now coming all the way from Sherrills Ford, North Carolina. Here is what Hailey had to say… "I love basketball and getting to view it from another angle makes me love the sport even more. My mom is my best friend and the one I talk to about everything. She is the person who pulls me through all the ups and downs of my life. I have looked up to her since I was little, and I hope to be half the mom she is one day. My dad has always been my biggest cheerleader and he never lets me down. I guess you could say I'm a daddy's girl. My little sister is the one who makes me a better person every day because I know she looks up to me and I want to be the best example for her as she grows up. I used to think that basketball was everything, but after having a career-ending injury I can now see how much more there is to life other than basketball. All the life lessons that basketball has taught me has helped me in so many other aspects of my life. God gave me the ability to play basketball and now he is giving me the opportunity to live my life in a different direction with the skills He knew I would learn from basketball. When I am not doing something basketball-related, you will probably find me reading or watching baseball, football, soccer, or volleyball; and in the summer you will probably find me out on the lake swimming or wake-boarding. I like MVNU for all the fun and interesting people it has."
