Friday, November 9:

Pool A Matches:

Recap:  Mount Vernon Nazarene won its pool play opener behind 14 kills from Shena Beheler and 10 kills and 10 digs from Jackie Albrecht.  Kaylin Austen handed out 32 assists for the Lady Cougars, while Courtney Springer finished with eight kills and 11 digs.  Tiffany Milburn also tallied a team-high 16 digs.  Point Park was led by Rachel Roddy and Heather Pegg with 11 kills apiece, while Ashley Zietak added 10 kills.  Erin Sneider and Kala Schnur posted 16 and 11 digs respectively with Schnur handing out 30 assists.

Recap:  Malone out-lasted Point Park in five games to eliminate the Lady Pioneers and earn a spot in the semifinals.  Jen Gahagan pounded 21 kills with 13 digs to lead Malone, while Erica Gann added 15 kills and seven blocks.  Lori Ickes finished with nine kills and 14 digs, and Kristen Schoolcraft registered 10 blocks.  Alyssa Dibell handed out 51 assists, while Emily Beiting contributed 13 digs.  Point Park was led by Rachel Roddy with 19 kills, 23 digs, and three aces, while Ashley Zietak finished with 13 kills and two blocks.  Kala Schnur handed out 46 assists, and Ashley Santavy totaled eight kills and three aces.  Erin Sneider also posted 12 digs.

Recap:  Mount Vernon Nazarene swept Malone to win Pool A and advance to the semifinals on Saturday.  Jackie Albrecht led the Lady Cougars with 13 kills, seven blocks, and 12 digs, while Shena Beheler added 10 kills, six blocks, and 13 digs.  Kayla Austen handed out 40 assists to go with four blocks, and Tiffany Milburn tallied 17 digs with two aces.  Courtney Springer and Audrey Hickinbotham also finished with eight kills apiece.  Malone, who also advanced to the semifinals despite the loss, was led by Lori Ickes, Jen Gahagan, and Erica Gann with nine kills apiece.  Gann posted six blocks, while Ickes and Gahagan tallied 13 and 11 digs respectively.  Alyssa Dibell handed out 34 assists for the Lady Pioneers, and Emily Beiting served up three aces.

 

Pool B Matches:

Recap:  Cedarville knocked off Notre Dame in its pool play opener behind 15 kills and seven blocks from Sarah Zeltman.  Maija Hampton added 10 kills and 17 digs, while Katie Moon handed out 46 assists.  Sarah Sheers also posted 10 digs, and Justine Christiaanse pounded nine kills.  Notre Dame was led by Hailey Martin with 11 kills, while Julia Szabo and Leslie Rodriguez hammered eight and seven kills respectively.  Debbie Beatty registered 19 digs, and Brittany Kelly handed out 30 assists.

Recap:  Cedarville wrapped up the Pool B title by out-lasting Walsh in five games to advance to the second semifinal match on Saturday.  Sarah Zeltman led the Lady Jackets with 23 kills, 12 blocks, and two aces.  Emily Berger and Justine Christiaanse smashed 18 and 10 kills respectively, and Katie Moon handed out 58 assists.  Maija Hampton and Libby Short had 17 and 11 digs respectively, while Kylee Huzak tallied five blocks.  Walsh was led by Megan McDonald with 26 kills, while Megan Kelly and Erica Parker each finished with 14 kills apiece with Parker posting 4.5 blocks.  Heather Hernandez registered 36 digs and three aces, and Jillian Barry handed out 71 assists to go with 19 digs.

Recap:  Walsh earned the fourth spot in the semifinals on Saturday by sweeping Notre Dame behind 18 kills and three blocks from Erica Parker.  Hilary Dattilo contributed 11 kills and three blocks, while Heather Hernandez finished with 19 digs.  Jillian Barry handed out 51 assists, and Caitlin Whealy tallied 11 kills.  Notre Dame's stats were unavailable as the Falcons' season came to an end.

 

Note:  The top two teams from each pool advance to the AMC/NAIA Region IX Tournament semifinals on Saturday.  Mount Vernon Nazarene won Pool A, while Cedarville won Pool B.

 

Saturday, November 10:

Recap:  Mount Vernon Nazarene earned a berth in the AMC/NAIA Region IX Tournament championship match for the third time in school history as the Lady Cougars defeated Walsh.  Shena Beheler led the way for MVNU with 23 kills, four blocks, and 20 digs.  Audrey Hickinbotham and Courtney Springer pounded 14 and 13 kills respectively with Springer adding 15 digs and a career-high nine blocks.  Jackie Albrecht registered nine kills, 10 blocks, and 16 digs, while Tiffany Milburn posted 24 digs.  Kaylin Austen also handed out 53 assists.  Walsh was led by Erica Parker and Megan McDonald with 16 kills apiece, while Megan Kelly smashed 12 kills.  Heather Hernandez and Ashley Yuhas tallied 32 and 27 digs respectively, and Jillian Barry handed out 62 assists.

Recap:  Malone knocked off Cedarville to advance to the AMC/NAIA Region IX Tournament championship match for the first time in school history.  Jen Gahagan led the Lady Pioneers with 19 kills, 20 digs, and five blocks.  Lori Ickes added 14 kills and 24 digs, while Alyssa Dibell handed out 47 assists.  Kristen Schoolcraft also led Malone with nine blocks.  Cedarville was led by Sarah Zeltman with 25 kills and five blocks, while Katie Moon handed out 44 assists.  Maija Hampton finished with nine kills and 13 digs, and Libby Short posted 22 digs.  Emily Berger also tallied eight kills, and Kylee Husak registered five blocks.

Recap:  Mount Vernon Nazarene earned its first-ever trip to the NAIA National Tournament with a victory over Malone.  Jackie Albrecht led the Lady Cougars with 17 kills, five blocks, and 13 digs, while Shena Beheler finished with 15 kills, six blocks, and nine digs.  Audrey Hickinbotham smashed 11 kills, and Courtney Springer tallied eight kills, three aces, and 14 digs.  Tiffany Milburn also posted 15 digs and three aces, while Kaylin Austen handed out 44 assists.  Malone was led by Jen Gahagan with 17 kills, six blocks, and 13 digs, while Erica Gann had 12 kills and six blocks.  Lori Ickes totalled 19 digs, and Kristen Schoolcraft registered seven blocks.

 

Mount Vernon Nazarene University will receive an automatic berth into the NAIA National Tournament that will be hosted by Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri, on November 28-December 1.
