The Lady Cougars pounded a school-record 91 kills in the match as Rachel Widener led the way with 21. Darcee Hoberg and Jessica Huffaker added 18 and 17 kills respectively, while Amanda Schumm finished with 16 kills. Darcee Hoberg and Amanda Schumm smashed 14 and 10 kills respectively to lead the team, while Jessica Huffaker finished with nine kills and a team-high four blocks. The match was the final regular-season home match for seniors Widener, Huffaker, Amber Rice, and Becky Jefferys.

The Lady Cougars kicked off play in the Kenyon College Invitational with a 15-0, 15-9, 15-7 victory over Hiram. MVNC, the four-time defending tournament champion, was led by Jessica Huffaker, Scarlett Habrun, and Katie Zipf with four kills each with Zipf and Habrun adding five and four blocks respectively. Mary Jo Porter also recorded two kills, one block, and a team-high three aces, and Amber Rice finished with six digs and three kills. The win was also the 500th for head coach Paul Swanson at MVNC.

MVNC got back on the winning track with a 15-6, 15-2, 15-5 non-conference victory at Heidelberg. The Lady Cougars suffered their first loss of the 1999 season as MVNC fell to Findlay 7-15, 15-11, 15-6, 8-15, 12-15 in the championship match of the University of Michigan-Dearborn Earlybird Challenge. MVNC remained unbeaten at the University of Michigan-Dearborn as the Lady Cougars defeated the host school 19-17, 17-15, 15-11. Darcee Hoberg smashed a career-high 20 kills to lead the way, while Amanda Schumm and Rachel Widener added nine kills apiece. Katie Zipf led the team with a career-high seven blocks, and Scarlett Habrun finished with four blocks. Amber Rice and Rachel Widener contributed 14 and 12 digs respectively, while Schumm and Andrea Rudd had three blocks apiece.
August 27, vs. Spring Arbor (MI) College
The Lady Cougars won their pool at the University of Michigan-Dearborn Earlybird Challenge as MVNC downed Spring Arbor 15-5, 15-5, 15-12. Darcee Hoberg pounded a team-high 14 kills, while Scarlett Habrun added nine kills and three blocks. Hoberg also led the team with 15 digs and two aces, and Amber Rice contributed nine digs. Andrea Rudd posted a team-high four blocks, while Katie Zipf recorded three blocks.
August 27, vs. Rochester (MI) College
MVNC got the 1999 season off on a winning note as the Lady Cougars defeated Rochester 15-8, 15-10, 15-8 at the University of Michigan-Dearborn Earlybird Challenge. Rachel Widener led the way with nine kills, three aces, and four blocks, while Darcee Hoberg added eight kills, three aces, and 14 digs. Amanda Schumm also contributed eight kills, and Scarlett Habrun posted a team-high five blocks. Katie Zipf also added four blocks.
