"LADY COUGARS GET BACK TO THEIR WINNING WAYS"
After suffering their first conference loss in nearly two years on Tuesday, the MVNC women's volleyball team returned to their winning ways on Thursday with a 15-13, 14-16, 15-12, 15-5 victory over Mid-Ohio Conference foe Tiffin University.
MVNC (9-3, 2-1) started slowly in the first game as the Lady Dragons jumped out to an 11-5 lead. However, the Lady Cougars finally got things rolling as they scored ten of the last twelve points to take the game 15-13.
The team continued to play well in the second game as MVNC built a commanding 12-0 lead. Tiffin was determined to not go down without a fight, though, and the Lady Dragons (3-4, 1-2) slowly began chipping away at the lead. Eventually, they rallied to tie the game at 12-12, and then went on to win the game 16-14.
The third game was a see-saw battle as the teams traded points to a 12-12 deadlock. From there, the Lady Cougars scored the final three points of the game for a 15-12 victory and a 2-1 lead in the match.
In the fourth game, it was all MVNC as the Lady Cougars roared to a 15-5 victory over the exhausted Lady Dragons.
Tara Seiter led the team with 16 kills and six blocks. Courtny Testa added 12 kills and five blocks, while Tammy Custer turned in an outstanding defensive effort with a team-high 22 digs.
"This was a good win for us," said MVNC head coach Paul Swanson. "As the defending conference champs, everyone is ready when they play us. I was really impressed with the way that Tiffin played. We responded well to the competition and beat a hot team on their floor tonight."
After taking the weekend off, the Lady Cougars will return to action on Tuesday as they host Shawnee State University in another MOC match.
