"LADY COUGARS KNOCK OFF FINDLAY"
The MVNC women's volleyball team continued its quest for a third straight Mid-Ohio Conference title by notching a road win over the University of Findlay by the scores of 15-8, 15-7, 8-15, 15-9. With the victory, the Lady Cougars (21-7, 9-1) remained one win behind Walsh University in the race for the conference crown.
After winning the first two games rather easily, MVNC struggled in the third game as the Lady Oilers (9-7, 5-6) staved off elimination with the victory. The fourth game was a battle as the Lady Cougars took a 13-9 lead. Sixteen sideouts later, MVNC finally scored the final two points to take the match.
"We played really well in the first two games as the scores indicate," said MVNC head coach Paul Swanson. "In the third game, we struggled and they (Findlay) took advantage of it. In the fourth game, we withstood the pressure and held on for the win. I was pleased with the way that we kept getting sideouts and would not let them score."
Tara Seiter led the team with 23 kills, while Christa DeLorenzo smashed 16 kills. Rachel Widener and Courtny Testa added twelve and seven kills respectively to the winning effort. Testa also notched a team-high six blocks, while Widener added four blocks. Tammy Custer led the team with three aces and 30 digs.
The Lady Cougars will return to action on Monday as they travel to Urbana University for another MOC match-up.
