Junior right-side hitter Kaylee Hewitt and junior outside hitter Paige Hagans registered 10 and six digs respectively, and junior setter Lauren Percival handed out 22 assists.

In the match against Madonna (4-0), the Lady Crusaders, who received votes in the NAIA preseason poll, proved to be just too much for the Lady Cougars. Junior middle hitter Haley Nofziger and freshman right-side hitter Molly Gerber paced the team with five and three kills respectively, and Percival handed out 13 assists. Votaw and Hewitt had seven and six digs respectively, while Porto and junior outside hitter Erika Votaw each served up an ace with Porto also finishing with three kills.

"This weekend was a learning experience for us," said MVNU coach Paul Swanson. "We are getting better, but we need to keep working to make fewer mistakes."

The Lady Cougars will return to action on Thursday when they will host Lake Erie College at 7 p.m. in non-conference action that will be the first of 12 regular-season home dates for the team this year in the Physical Education Center.
