Lady Cougars Sweep Huntington in Conference Action

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (10-22-2011) - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's volleyball team snapped a five-match losing streak by sweeping Huntington (Ind.) University 25-21, 25-21, 25-22 in Mid-Central College Conference action on Saturday afternoon in the Physical Education Center.

Junior setter Lauren Percival (left) led the Lady Cougars (11-18, 5-12 MCC) with a career-high eight kills, 21 assists, three blocks, and nine digs, while junior middle hitter Gina Porto and junior outside hitter Haley Nofziger each pounded six kills apiece with Porto registering a team-high five blocks. Junior defensive specialist Paige Hagans served up five aces, and junior libero Kaylee Hewitt posted a team-best 14 digs.

"We were fortunate to win this match in three," said MVNU coach Paul Swanson. "We controlled the first set well. We trailed 20-18 in the second set, and Haley went back to serve and helped us scored six straight points with excellent serving. In the third set, we were down again 22-19 and Paige's serving helped us score six straight to end the match. This was an important conference win for us."

The Lady Cougars will close out the conference portion of their schedule on Wednesday when MVNU will travel to Goshen (Ind.) College for a 7 p.m. match. The Lady Cougars have already earned the No. 8 seed in the upcoming MCC Tournament that will start on November 8.
