GAMBIER, Ohio (9-1-2010) - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to eight straight matches as the Lady Cougars swept a non-conference match at Knox County rival Kenyon College by the scores of 25-11, 25-18, 25-19 in Tomsich Arena on Wednesday night.

Senior middle hitter Jackie Albrecht led a balanced attack with nine kills, 11 digs, and three aces for MVNU (8-1) against the Ladies (0-1), while senior middle hitter Sarah Yutzy (left) finished with eight kills and five blocks. Freshman outside hitter Kendra Votaw also pounded eight kills to go with two aces, and sophomore setter Lauren Percival handed out 28 assists to go with eight digs. Senior libero Caitlin Myles also posted 13 digs.

"After a slow start, (Kenyon) played well and challenged us in the second and third sets,” said MVNU coach Paul Swanson. "They have come a long way since last year and are much improved. We were not as consistent in the back row tonight as I would have liked, but at the end of the day we did get the job done. We need to step our play up for this weekend, though.”

The Lady Cougars will return to action on Friday when MVNU will take part in the nine-team St. Vincent (Pa.) College Bearcat Challenge. The Lady Cougars will face Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College at 5 p.m. and Houghton (N.Y.) College at 9 p.m. Then, MVNU will return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Carlow (Pa.) University and then at 3 p.m. against the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg.
