MARION, Ind. (9-18-2010) - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's volleyball team swept Cornerstone (Mich.) University to start the day before falling in five sets to host Indiana Wesleyan University at the Wildcat Classic on Saturday as the Lady Cougars' winning streak finally came to an end at 17 matches.

MVNU (17-2) began the day with a 25-18, 25-15, 25-22 sweep of Cornerstone to improve to 3-0 in the nine-team tournament. Senior middle hitter Jackie Albrecht led the way with 14 kills, while freshman outside hitter Kendra Votaw added 10 kills and two blocks. Sophomore setter Lauren Percival handed out 33 assists to go with two aces and 11 digs. Senior libero Caitlin Myles (left) and sophomore right-side hitter Kaylee Hewitt had 15 and 10 digs respectively, and senior middle hitter Sarah Yutzy led the team with six blocks.

The Lady Cougars looked like they were going to get swept themselves in their final match of the tournament, but MVNU rallied from a two-set deficit to force a fifth and deciding set before falling 25-18, 25-15, 22-25, 19-25, 15-10 to Indiana Wesleyan (7-6) as the Lady Cougars did not let the winning streak end without a fight. Albrecht and Votaw each pounded 13 kills apiece to lead MVNU with Albrecht and sophomore outside hitter Haley Nofziger each posting two blocks. Percival handed out 43 assists to go with 17 digs, and Yutzy smashed 11 kills. Hewitt served up three aces and posted 18 digs, while Myles finished with 26 digs.

"I thought our effort and execution were excellent against Cornerstone,” said MVNU coach Paul Swanson. "Against Indiana Wesleyan, we were dominated in the first and second set. Sets three and four were a different story and it was an impressive comeback to get to the fifth set. Unfortunately, we fell a bit short in the fifth set, but it was a great match and will make us better.”

The Lady Cougars will return to action on Tuesday when MVNU will host Denison University in a non-conference match that will begin at 7 p.m.
