Winning Streak Reaches 10 in a Row for
MVNU Volleyball Team

LATROBE, Pa. (9-3-2010) - The Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women's volleyball team
rallied from two sets down to defeat Roberts
Wesleyan (N.Y.) College in five sets and
then swept Houghton (N.Y.) College on Friday
night at the Saint Vincent (Pa.) College
Bearcat Challenge as the Lady Cougars
extended their winning streak to 10 straight
matches.
 The
Lady Raiders of Roberts Wesleyan had MVNU
(10-1) on the ropes after taking the first
two sets 25-23 and 27-25 before the Lady
Cougars won three straight by the scores of
25-14, 25-20, and 16-14 to take the match.
Senior middle hitter Jackie Albrecht led the
way with 16 kills, 16 digs, and two aces,
while freshman outside hitter Kendra Votaw
also added 16 kills and two aces. Sophomore
setter Lauren Percival handed out 49 assists
to go with 20 digs and two aces, and senior
middle hitter Sarah Yutzy registered 11
kills and five blocks. Senior libero Caitlin
Myles posted 26 digs, while sophomore
outside hitter Haley Nofziger (left)
smashed nine kills. Sophomore right-side
hitter Kaylee Hewitt also served up two
aces.
MVNU swept Houghton in the team's final
match of the day by the scores of 25-19,
25-12, 25-16. Hewitt led the team with seven
kills, while Albrecht and Votaw had six
kills apiece with Albrecht also posting
three aces and 11 digs and Votaw tallying
three blocks. Percival handed out 21 more
assists, and Myles contributed 27 digs.
Yutzy also posted four blocks.
The Lady Cougars will be back in action on
Saturday starting at 1 p.m. when MVNU takes
on Carlow (Pa.) University and then again at
3 p.m. versus the University of
Pittsburgh-Bradford to close out the two-day
tournament.
