The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s
volleyball team secured one more postseason
possibility as the Lady Cougars swept Geneva
(Pa.) College 25-19, 25-10, 25-22 at Malone
University on Tuesday night as MVNU captured
the program’s 18th National Christian
College Athletic Association East Region
title with the team’s 12th straight win.
Junior
middle hitter Jackie Albrecht led the Lady
Cougars (32-7) with 14 kills, 14 digs, and
three aces, while senior setter Kaylin
Austen handed out 42 assists against the
Golden Tornadoes (19-12). Junior middle
hitter Sarah Yutzy added 11 kills and three

(left) registered a team-high 24

served up three aces. Freshman middle hitter
Haley Nofziger also tallied five kills.
"We played very well tonight against a
quality team,” said MVNU coach Paul Swanson.
"Our back row play was impressive tonight,
especially Caitlin’s. She was really a
difference-maker for us tonight. This was a
good win and we need to build off of it.”
The victory secures a berth for the Lady
Cougars in the NCCAA National Tournament in
Kissimmee, Fla. unless MVNU qualifies for
the NAIA National Tournament Final Site
which takes place at the same time.
The Lady Cougars will close out the
regular season on Thursday when MVNU will
host Walsh University in an American Mideast
Conference match at 7:00 p.m. to determine
who will host the five-team AMC Tournament
on November 13-14. The Lady Cougars are
currently in second place in the AMC
standings with a 9-2 mark, while Walsh is
third with an 8-3 record. Shawnee State
University has clinched at least a share of
the AMC regular-season title and the
automatic berth into the NAIA National
Tournament Opening Round with a 10-0 record
and two conference matches remaining. The
AMC Tournament champion will also receive a
berth into the NAIA National Tournament
Opening Round.
Prior to Thursday’s match, MVNU’s three
senior players, Haumschild, Austen, and
Springer, will be honored for their
contributions over the past four years.
