The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s volleyball team shook off
the doldrums of a long mid-week road trip as
the Lady Cougars swept Carlow (Pa.)
University 25-20, 25-21, 25-8 in American
Mideast Conference action on Thursday night
to run the team’s winning streak to six
straight matches.
Junior
outside hitter Jackie Albrecht paced MVNU
(26-7, 7-2 AMC) with 16 kills, 11 digs, and
four blocks in the win over the Celtics
(10-17, 0-8 AMC), while junior middle hitter
Sarah Yutzy added 12 kills and three blocks.
Senior right-side hitter Courtney Springer
pounded 10 kills, and senior setter Kaylin
Austen (left) handed out 42
assists. Junior libero Caitlin Myles and
freshman right-side hitter Kaylee Hewitt
posted 11 and 10 digs respectively, while
freshman middle hitter Haley Nofziger
registered four blocks.
“The first two sets were really close as
Carlow played well and we just were not
consistent enough,” said MVNU coach Paul
Swanson. “Fortunately, we pulled away late
in each of them and then really turned
things on and were in control in the third
set. It was nice to get everyone into the
action and it is always good to win
conference matches.”
The Lady Cougars will return to action on
Saturday with a tri-match at Malone
University. MVNU will begin the day at noon
with a match against the host Lady Pioneers
(22-7, 5-4 AMC) that will count both in the
AMC standings and also towards determining
the National Christian College Athletic
Association East Region champion. Then, at
2:00 p.m., the Lady Cougars will square off
with the College of Wooster (20-6) in a
non-conference match.
