The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s volleyball team swept a
non-conference match at Denison University
on Tuesday night as the Lady Cougars
prevailed in straight sets 25-22, 25-19,
25-9.
Junior
outside hitter Jackie Albrecht led MVNU
(13-4) with 12 kills, 10 digs, and three
blocks, while sophomore middle hitter Gina
Porto added nine kills and three blocks.
Senior right-side hitter Courtney Springer
(left), who had been sidelined
since the team’s trip to California,
returned to the lineup with seven kills and
13 digs, and senior setter Kaylin Austen
handed out 32 assists. Freshman right-side
hitter Kaylee Hewitt posted 13 digs, while
junior middle hitter Sarah Yutzy contributed
a team-high seven blocks.
“(Denison) came out and played very well
in the first two sets and were on top of
their game,” said MVNU coach Paul Swanson.
“I was pleased with the way that we
continued to get better and better as the
match went on. It was really nice to have
Courtney back out on the floor with the rest
of the team after she was out for over two
weeks.”
The Lady Cougars will return to action on
Thursday night when MVNU will make the short
drive over to Knox County rival Kenyon
College for a non-conference match that will
begin at 7:00 p.m. This match was added to
the schedule after a match at the University
of Rio Grande later in the year was taken
off the slate.
