The No. 3 seed Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women’s volleyball team
saw its quest for a second straight trip to
the NAIA National Tournament come to an end
on Saturday afternoon when the Lady Cougars
fell to No. 2 seed Ohio Dominican University
22-25, 25-21, 25-18, 21-25, 13-15 in the
American Mideast Conference Tournament
semifinals at Shawnee State University.

(33-9) was led by sophomore middle hitter
Jackie Albrecht with 16 kills, 17 digs, and
four blocks, while junior right-side hitter
Courtney Springer added 15 kills and 16
digs. Sophomore libero Caitlin Myles
(left) posted a career-high 34 digs,
and junior setter Kaylin Austen handed out
49 assists with a career-high five kills and
13 digs. Freshman middle hitter Gina Porto
tallied 13 kills and four blocks, while
freshman outside hitter Cieleste Rose
contributed 17 digs.
Top seed and host Shawnee State swept
Ohio Dominican 25-13, 25-23, 25-13 in the
championship match to capture the AMC
Tournament title and earn the program’s
first-ever berth in the NAIA National
Tournament Opening Round on November 22.
Walsh University, the AMC regular-season
champion, also received an automatic berth
in that event.
The Lady Cougars, who captured the
National Christian College Athletic
Association East Region title back in
October, will receive a berth in the NCCAA
National Tournament. That event will take
place on December 4-6 at Colorado Christian
University in Lakewood, Colo. Details about
that event will be released as they become
available.
